I have always wanted my Jeep, Betsy, to have a longer wheelbase. With the gas tank in the rear between the frame rails (still want a rear seat for the kids and space in the rear for storage)- there is only so far that you can push the rear axle back and with mechanical steering there is only so far that you can push the front axle forward. I have admired the LJ because of the extra room and wheelbase. A while ago, I heard about the 'TJ6' (throwback to the rare CJ6) conversion that some people have done to their TJ. It involves cutting the body and frame of a TJ just behind the door opening and adding in 15". This gives you a longer wheelbase, more storage and allows you to utilize a LJ Cage and Soft/Hard Top. It is time for the next evolution for Betsy-

I will be selling the following TJ items: full roll cage with aluminum roof, soft top, soft top hardware, rear corner guards and fenders.

Let the fun begin...

They have some great stuff. I am eyeing one of there bumpers. I am going with Genright corners since I have their rockrails.

That is a nice jeep! That is a great way to go about it. Lots of options- LJ tub, Junk Yard body panels, Genright, Motobilt, Varozza...

So far, the hardest thing for me to find is 2.5" x 4" rectangle tube for the frame extension.

I remember him having some issues fitting the extensions as well. I looked back through the build thread and it looks like he started with 2x4 box and cut and pie sliced it down to fit inside. Then he plated the outside.
 
I would recommend getting a back half kit that uses more common 2x4 tubing and makes some packaging issues easier. Dave’s customs unlimited, motobilt, artec all make good ones. Motobilt makes a yj stretch back half and a tj back half, but I bet they’d make a stretch tj kit from available parts
