"Blast from the Past" 79' RV restore

hey need some opinions on something:
wall paneling 4x8 sheets weigh roughly 15-21lb a piece
1/4x4x8 sheetrock weighs roughly 28lb a piece. but half the price.
any suggestions on good or bad idea for using sheetrock inside a RV beside the obvious if it leaked (which I'm hoping is now fixed, find out tomorrow).
and IF sheetrock would be usable, would the weight difference be that big...we're talking 210lb difference between the 2 from the weight research I've found.
*would you guys worry that much about that 200lb difference, that is if sheetrock is usable. Thank you for the input.

wait...nevermind sorry dumb question....just thinking and realized sheetrock would crack as soon as it moved lol...never said I was the brightest bulb in the chandelier LOL. scratch that last post, stupid me.

I'm not happy driving a ticking time bomb

You're definitely on to something here, though. If I were you, I'd look into getting rid of that huge gas tank. Also, damn near every vehicle fire I've ever seen was caused by transmission fluid. So you should probably get rid of that, too.

Can't be too safe. Who wants to let their kids ride in a vehicle that has HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of ounces of HIGHLY FLAMMABLE liquids in it? Just asking for trouble.

ok ok you got a point...it's just me, I don't like propane appliances, never have and just seems another reason of safety hazard I'd rather not deal with. Very true on gas tanks/trans fluid but having 4 different gas lines running underneath the rv just doesn't help, in my mind anyways. Probably silly I agree but either way, a preference of mine and loses a lot of weight removing all those appliances anyways.
You're right though, this thing has a HUGE front tank LOL and pretty darn big rear tank...that's gonna be fun filling up!!

with your fire concerns, sheetrock would be better in that instance. as you said, it would likely crack as much as those things move.... Esp now that it is gutted. I imagine many of those interior walls/structures added some rigidity to the structure.

Ehh, just insulate the walls, roof, floor with this prior to adding the paneling ;)

thought this was the guy that wasn't paying taxes because he wasn't making any money yet can finance another build and the immense quantities of fuel to go into it. just sayin...

well maybe a little but I'm adding lot more rigidity to it by the time I'm done with the framing before I even start the paneling...the rigidity from factory came from the paneling being glued to the stirafoam and to the metal studs which was pain to remove where it wasn't wet but lucky most of it was wet and soft/moldy.

without going into it, this was a free gift and over time, it's something I can do without having to come up with lump sum all at once. "another Build" isn't what this is like building a jeep. I stop putting money into my jeep while ago and that frees up little extra funds for project and my folks might be pitching in for part of the project and probably will end up selling my Tahoe and other stuff to help support this project. Just cause I'm poor doesn't mean I can't work hard for a little extra and this gift of an RV from the Lord will somehow be done over time as He provides for everything. I've already had the plywood for the floor and new carpet donated from a customer, some framing lumber from him too, brad nailer and lots of misc wood screws and metal screws also so I've already been blessed with materials without having to spend anything...again where God guides, He provides.
(btw, it's not my fault that I don't pay taxes...it's just how it works out so please don't be so quick to judge. Maybe you haven't fallen in that category of income for this (which is awesome) so maybe you aren't familiar but for the last 13 years, it's just how it plays out...even when I did 1099 for several years I still never had to pay from those employers that game me those.)

Please don't derail this thread. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how you build this RV. Post progress pics when you can
I will def keep pictures posted as I get along...right now haven't got any further than the last pictures, will keep them coming.

I have been much much worse off financially- like $5 to my name. Guess what, the CJ went on blocks and stayed that way until I could provide for myself and my wife. Toys ARE not important when you cant meet basic family needs NOW and in the immediate future.

well worked on the RV today and got everything,...I mean everything, stripped from walls floor ceiling and got wiring and plumbing disconnected enough to start flooring and walls. Got the front drivers area gutted mostly but I'm gonna leave the dash in as I'm not in the mood to deal with the headache of wires behind that thing, lol...there are TONS of wires that run behind that dash for all the gauges and such so I'll just deal with dash covering it later somehow (least of my worries)...so this is where it sits now and it's now ready for flooring as the next step, will keep updating:

got to work on the rv some today...amazing how little flooring/plywood totally changes the looks already. It really motivates me now to see the new floor as to how it will look with new walls...I can't wait!! Not bad cutting job/measuring for neatness in 12yrs...I'm having a blast doing carpentry all over again, really getting the hang of it again...so here's the progress as of today.
By a miracle all of a sudden, this afternoon guy shows up buys the Tahoe quick cash sale no fuss SOOOOOOOOOOO, hang on for the ride fellas, Yall about to see the quickest RV Remodel you've ever seen in the next few weeks, stay tuned!! Starting on mechanics tomorrow, driveshafts are being made so gonna start on mechanical stuff so I can drive it some once driveshafts get done. stay tuned.

thanks. Tomorrow gonna hope to get ceiling fixed and get the framing slats in place on it...i hope to get the walls and ceiling ready for paneling before the weekend and so far roof repair is holding up. Can't wait to get the new carpet a customer is donating this weekend....says it's brand new light tan and says it's the "nice plush" kind, not that cheapo stuff so exited to see that!

No way would I put sheetrock in there. the body will flex...crack the sheetrock and it's heavy as hell.
Id do paneling, that way you can do repairs easier

The man has a plan and he's sticking to it. Work ethic is definitely a strong point!

hold on hold on there guys....I'm almost done with getting the walls and ceiling in...tomorrow should be done with all walls and ceiling!! been busy with other stuff and I'm back at it this week! Thanks for the motivation & encouragement though, I needed that as it's been ......WHEW!!!!

i had to re-frame an entire wall... as those 2 windows were about to fall out LOL from the rotten wood...then put slats on ceiling every 15" and yeah....chugging along though

Alright finally got the walls up, ceiling up and painted..for now until final coat when all complete. I have to say NOW I'm finally happy and motivated to continue as it finally looks like something and smells all nice and new too. We had to tap into the funds for other family stuff/bills so I went the cheaper route with that plyboard sheets rather than actual wall paneling plywood....way cheaper but little easier to work with (flimsy lol). I would've rather used real 1/4" paneling but I'm still very pleased with the turnout. Well this is the progress. Me and the Wife are very happy with it so far!!
