New abc store just go finished across the street from work so we went over and checked it out. Has anyone tried the Tim Smith stuff? Saw it but didn’t pull the trigger

I didn’t read through all of this, but I see most here like Buffalo Trace. I saw a few people mention Benchmark. Y’all know it is very similar and has the same mash bill?
I still would buy BT over it if you could find it, but Benchmark is my go to if I’m drinking heavy. It’s like $10.

My favorite whiskies so far in no particular order.

High West campfire (very tasty) nice transition from a bourbon to a scotch.

High West rendezvous rye (very spicy) also don’t knock a chair over in a high end hotel bar or try to buy the artwork off the wall…

Bellmeade Bourbon (haven’t cracked my bottle of cask strength yet. Had it over 3 years…) but they sell their regular in NC now so that makes me happy.

Ardbeg 10 year
Dickel bottled in bond
Blantons
Lagavulin 16

I love Rye.
There’s many more I’m forgetting.
@hurt4x4 has a pretty solid little collection going. We enjoy nice whiskey together sometimes. He’s gotten me into scotch.

A buddy of mine is one of the bartenders at Dram & Draught here in Greensboro and they have a bottle of Octomore he would give me a free sample of. So we need to get back over there…

it’s a great place to buy 1oz to see if you like something without buying a whole bottle.

I have, it is like most “good” corn liquor if you have a taste for it. I don’t think it’s any better than Ole Smokey or any of the others.

Wow. Nice score!

Supper jelly

Lucky SOB…haven’t seen either of those in the wild in quite some time.
Picked them up from a personal collection. He has a honey hole in TN. Guess it is a poor area that drinks a lot but never buys the expensive stuff. Haven't decided what I'm going to do with the Blantons. We sampled some other wheated Weller I really liked it. I'll drink the Weller for sure.

It'll give you bad diarrhea. Better ship that one to me.

Honestly, I’d flip it. It was a damn good bottle when it was $60 retail…but I’m seeing some online retailers listing it at $150-200 now. At that price, I can think of several other bottles I’d buy that the average bourbon drinker hasn’t heard of and isn’t inflating the price on.

They must have released that recently (special reserve). A dickhead that works with me goes around hording up all the Weller he can find. He's got other people looking for it for him too. He picked up one of those and an Antique 107 in the same day. I'm not sure he evens drinks it but I know for damn sure he loves to brag about it and how much it costs on the second hand market.

Yeah, I paid close to market price for the Blantons, was thinking about selling it. And yeah, the 107 is rare, paid 240 for the pair. Probably could sell Blantons for 200+. Gonna see what my boss and Co workers wamt to do we may split it..... nc4x4 bourbon tasting one day might be a good idea too.

FWIW Blantons can still be found semi regularly for retail around here....

Ron,
Let me know where you frequent, I haven't seen it around me, I am only at state line or other liqour stores, maybe once a month though. PM me if you dont want it advertised.

So I stopped by the the local ABC store on my way home from work.
The lady working asked if I would like a bottle of Eagle Rare while I was browsing. Had to pick up some benchmark cause I was out.

Also @hurt4x4 bought me a handle of BT.

I'm not a rye guy, but Willett most definitely produces some of the most elegant bottles and labels. I find them very aesthetically pleasing.
@hurt4x4 bought another Rye that you may like. It’s not spicy at all. Very smooth and still 118 proof iirc. Don’t remember the name, but had a sweet flavor
