Out of curiosity, does whatever software you're using allow you to do mass calculations? That tends to lead to those "holy shit" moments, when you realize the design is a major porker, and makes you re-think how things are approached.
Think about this: Make the trailing arm taller, make it narrower, close out the top section, add cutouts for the damper mounts, locally reinforce around those cutouts if needed, add access cutouts for the damper hardware. Closed box sections are much stronger, and much simpler. I'm describing a pretty standard design, because I don't see any reason to re-invent the wheel here.
