First XJ build

If you don’t like cut rear boggers then you’re in the wrong thread :flipoff2:

Also got my lower axle end brackets tacked on. Rear Truss is supposed to get delivered today

You going to weld the tubes to the center section on the 8.25?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s what I did on my last 3 builds. Seems to work well, but I do want to physically get the truss in-hand and see where it lands on the housing

Got my axle truss, upper and lower link brackets burnt in, made just bungee cord upper links and have some 7/8x3/4” heims on the way for the uppers with 2 5/16” wide misalignment

Built a proper winch mount today that frees up the receiver carrier, also moved the winch up and back about 5” in both directions (into the grill)

Got more progress done on the cage; the D pillar to B pillar tubes will double as a place where the “frame side” of the air shocks mount to.

What made you go with the fox air shocks over the profender? I have been curious about the profenders for a while. Used to be able to get a set of 4 for 1100-1200 bucks new. Seems tempting...

@NCJeeplover good question. I looked at the Profenders pretty hard, but ultimately wanted readily available parts if needed. Fox has been around a long time.

I ordered these from Fox, hence they’re the “Fox Factory” air shocks, not the eBay Fox air shocks that are manufactured for Trail Gear.

Got my links made tonight and cycled everything. I’m happy with the pinion angle and centered yoke. I do have a tad bit of understeer from the parallel lowers, but I’ve seen a bajillion rigs with worse. I think I ended up in the 80-90% antisquat range. I got 14” air shocks, and am planning on setting them up close to 7/7 or 50% uptravel and downtravel. I honestly think after cycling it, I could’ve gotten away with like 18s or something - but no worries. I’ll limit strap things to where the 14s are happy. With the front long-armed I don’t foresee myself needing much more than 14s in the rear

I bet it's cold up your way. Props to keeping things going!

Very cool build, looking forward to seeing the shocks and their mounts inside for inspiration on mine. Haven’t started linking the rear axle yet but once I finish up the front I’ll be in this boat chasing anti squat and under steer. Keep up the good work, hard to get motivated when it’s cold out.

Thanks y’all! I really appreciate it. I recently got a 20x30’ shop with 240V and a 12’ door. It has really enabled this build more than anything. How silly I was for thinking I wanted to build as much as I had previously done in the driveway! I need to get a heater in the shop, but for now I’m just tickled that it’s not my driveway.

Ordered some 16x8 d-windows last night for the boggers. Hopefully they’ll be mounted and ready to put on the Jeep within a week or so.

Next big project is air shock mounting!

Trying to get the boggers mounted Tuesday and cycle everything again, then go into big work mode to finish this thing. My WB at this ride height is 109.5”. Still need to brace the cage, but want to get my final tire size cycled beforehand.

@paradisePWoffrd thanks man. A few things led to getting so involved:

Stock gas tank was nasty and in the way > so fuel cell it was

Leaf spring hangers were bluetooth-level rusty and the driverside was spun off inside the unibody> so 4 link seemed like the thing to do

It needed a cage anyway for the wheeling I was doing> so heavy cage action is what I ended up with

All in all, it's a super-polished turd. But I'm hoping it goes in the woods well :)

@NickMaul thats my best windshield  no plans as of right now - it’ll probably get more damaged if I had to guess.

Got my seats and harnesses in. Using the Summit house brand reclining and sliding seats with RCI 4-point harnesses. Got my fuel cell mount figured out and got the pump mock-up wiring done last night

Built some simple choad rear bump stops. They stop the axle 1” short of the air shocks bottoming out.

Got my cooler mount and spare mount figured out and mocked up

I have some PRP limit straps on the way for the rear. I slapped together a ghetto driveshaft for now, but will do a new SYE and double cardan shaft.

For anybody wondering, the boggers are 35x10.50r16.

Gonna add remote fill through the quarter glass?

Like a filler neck thru the “quarter glass”? I considered it on one section of the cage, having a welded-on filler neck. But for now I’m gonna rock it like it is
