I'd name it the Cock Gobler.

I get that some vendors will always be more expensive than another. That's life and the way business works.

For the amount of R&D Novak has done and made freely available. It is justifiable their prices. However. Was not to impressed with the Allen head bolts, the non locking heim joint nuts and the fact there is metal on metal shifting here. Would have hoped for at least some teflon washers as opposed to SS washers.

So going to update this shifter assembly with some better hardware and get it installed

I installed one of them in my old TJ about 9-10 years ago and it's still going strong. Don't remember what the hardware was at that point though.

I did a thing and I'm kinda digging it. The sunroof changes the whole feeling. I could go the rest of summer like this (doorless) and be happy.

Put some stickies on. Some fab vendors and what not.

Next on the agenda is drop Tcase, shifter, and front shaft.

I never actually thought I'd be a fan of those, but uh...yeah. :huggy:

Dropped the transfer case. Changing yoke and trying to figure out where it's leaking (both trans and Tcase).

It appears the only possible explanation for the trans is the output seal. Hopefully that is replaceable as it sits.

The trans is a little more baffling but again only one possible source. The planetary running seal. It's new from the rebuild but I notice a slight "bump" in the surface seal.. so pried away to look for dirt but saw none. The bump stays. Putting fluid in shows this is where it tries to pool and come out. And to my knowledge these seals on on the planetary shaft (trans side and Tcase) should prevent anything getting through??? Otherwise on the trans it would always immediately leak down to the weep hole.

Here you can see how it's wanting to weep out. These seals are supposed to prevent that right?

I bet the seal is just prematurely worn out. Even with it nice and straight, if that shaft is dry, the friction will eat it away really quickly if theirs no lubrication between them. Anytime I install one I usually lube the shaft or seal with whatever liquid it's intended to keep in.
Might that be it? :D

Shit, jody caught it as I was typing mine. . Yeah...that.

So I put the seal on backwards you're saying?

I don't think so. It looks to be the wrong seal all together.
Many times the rebuild kits come with a multitude of seals that may have the correct dimensions, but aren't the actual correct ones.
Yours should have a flat front face and an open back side where the spring goes.

Thanks for the input.

This si the seal for the tcase
Crown Front Retainer Seal

And this is the seal for the trans

First I cleaned up the shaft. Then realized I need to not skimp so tossed the pad and got the emory cloth. Got it all polished up.

Then located the proper seal. So hopefully better results this time. The rockauto seal is the incorrect one apparently.

Took special care to lube it up real nice. Went in super tight.

Then moved on to the non CV yoke removal from the old np207. But realized that yoke is way to massive to work with my current crossmember setup. On stroke of ingenuity? I dug into the scrounge bucket and dug up Dana 35 ujoint ubolts which fit exactly perfect into the CV yoke of the np231 (Dana 30 and Dana 44 ubolts do not fit even close). And the nut and washer size fits perfectly within the yoke recess. So gunna run this route and see how it goes.

Oh yeah...that should do it!
:driver:

So Tcase installed with shaft. Drives great! Still got a small ever slow drip coming from BH area. Don't know if its front trans or engine rear or pan. Over pas 4 weeks no drop in oil dipstick so maybe trans. Dunno.

The wife got me a few gifts and the steering wheel from the Contest winnings arrived. Also picked up a rubber mud boot for the trans. Just need to find a simple universal boot for trans and Tcase.

And ordered one of these Mohave Heaters. Stoked.

Dude. Still no 4wd. Smh. Also need to ground headlights. Finish other headlight install. Wire up parking lights and flashers. Fix signal assembly. Install steering wheel. Fix some dash wiring. And line this tub already.

Oh and also ordered some new lift struts for the hardtop gate

anyone wanna help chase a noise? its driving me nuts.

not linked to rpm or wheel speed, meaning no rhythm. metal on metal and irregular sounds like a bolt rattling. Can only be heard at low speeds (35ish) and when on a neighbor hood road with alot of side street objects (trees, cars, fence, etc) so the sound comes back at you.
