gas

I heard there was a station in Columbia, SC getting over $6 a gallon.

These oil companies and stations are nothing but a bunch of fucking thieves.

also,

"The latest I am hearing is that refining will not be able to commence until electricity is returned to Texas city. This might take a while but I am sure it is the highest priority, above everything actually.

Sounds like the refineries took light damage.

Bush dropped epa standards on fuel temporarily this allows all the states to use the same quality and mix of fuel on a temporary basis and should alleviate things a little.

The way things are some states are required to have more ethanol in the gas than others.. making supplying the different States a pain in the hiney for the refineries.. Bush has waived this requirement. Allowing our remaining refineries to produce one formulation of gasoline at much greater production speeds. And it allows gasoline from other countries to come in by rail and truck without reformulation concerns. This was a very smart move on Bushes part. " - gonzoman on nagca.com's gas prices thread

article on CNN.COM says the prices in southeast (KY,NC,SC,GA) rose because we're on the end of pipeline from Texas. Doesnt really make sense to me. If the pipeline is damaged in the gulf coast everybody would be higher not just the end of the line. Another broadcast today tried to claim the prices were due to the damage Gustaf did. funny I heard Gustaf didnt do any damage. When is last time a hurricane's effect on prices were delayed a week? I dont think so. They must think we're complete idiots. If my wife wouldnt kill me I'd get a motorcycle to ride to work again.

Clayton has finally come back down to earth, most station around 3.89-3.99.
Duane

JUST filled at the BP on 70bus east in front of Foodlion, $3.89 a gal, with the request you limit to 10 gal. I can do that.

All the HESS stations were 4.09, Crown was 3.99 but out of regular. Percy's was out of gas yesterday, had the handles bagged, but price was ( and is still ) 3.99, but I would bet he's going up first thing in the AM.

Yeah, Nc gov is gonna call all these stations in and question them on WHY they raised prices, but whose really to blame? the owners ? the wholesalers ? The media? <my pick

If folks would have left well enough alone, there would been little issue and hoopla, But no, the MEDIA all day friday was coaxing folks into a frenzy AS USUAL. Go fill up your cars, the sky is falling and were gonna run out of gas !!! and most of the SHEEPle did just that, PANIC !!

just exactly what damage did Ike do? i thought they reported the winds werent the concern, that the storm surge was going to be the scary part, then the reported that the surge wasnt what they thought it was going to be.

They must think we're complete idiots.

In fact, they know most people are. Just like when every tom dick and harry run out to buy milk bread etc just 'cause were expecting 4" of snow.

Same thing, only this time with fuel. No shortage, not gonna be a shortage, and everyone will still be mobile, so why stock up, It'll be there tommorrow, and the sun will rise again.

Interesting...

I can remember when the press reported the news.

Now they create it!:shaking:

Hrmmm...my grass is still green, not a hint of sky around.

I refuse to pay these prices, I will alter my work schedule a it, but Im not paying this crap.

I did have a little fun yesterday though. We visited my sister for my nephew's baptism, and on the way back we stopped to get a drink at a middle eastern owned convenience store. As I paid for the kids drinks, he tried to push my buttons, "Good sir, (BTW I SHIT YOU NOT) you are not buying gas? We will be out soon, and we will get no more for 4-6 weeks!"

I thought for a second and replied, "Nah we just came from Rock Hill, the state is already locking doors and arresting owners for gouging in a state of natural disaster. A friend told me his father was fined $100,000 for charging above 3.85" (this stations gas was 4.99)

His eyes got HUGE as he fumbled with my money, then picked up the phone and called someone...before we were out of the parking lot the electronic gas price sign was turned off....

As of this morning gas was $3.99 (same as Friday) and diesel was$3.89 at the Luvs in Marion. Been a long time since I have seen diesel lower than gas..

On the way home Friday, I damn near ran off the road at one gas station.

There are three Gas stations in a row, A Wilco, a Contry Store Station, and some other One off type place. all with in a few hundred yards of each other. Wilco, 3.89, Country Store, 3.99, The One off store... I shit you not, $5.63!!! I had to do a triple check. This morning it was back to about 3.99 of course.

Drove from G'boro out to Nantahala area Friday night and saw gas prices from $3.65gal to $4.69 gallon off the highway. On the way back Sunday afternoon, I stopped to fill up somewhere around hickory (I think). All the gas pumps had bags on the handles. As I was filling up, two people pulled up and asked me if that was the last pump with gas. I said "no, this one is out too, I am pumping diesel". It was $3,99/gal, saw it as cheap as $3.85 on the way out Friday night, but didn't need any. Overall, gas stations were gouging on gas prices, but not raising their diesel prices. That made it clear to me that the gas companies, store owners, whoever, are gouging to take advantage of the little guy.

While I don't like them jacking the price up any more than the next guy, what is this "price gauging" BS?
Nobody is making these morons pay the higher prices, if you don't like the high price then don't buy it. Last time I looked, it's a free market economy here, you know supply and demand. If you knew you could raise the price 10-40% on whatever it is you sell, and people would still line up to buy it, until you ran out, what would you do?

Our society has evolved such that gas is a need, not a want. If there was a widespread outbreak of mad cow disease, and the price of a hamburger doubled, you could just eat a chicken sandwich instead, but you can't fill your car up with anything else, well, I know YOU can:flipoff2:.

Well they went up then, at lunch the wilco/hess by the KFC was 3.89 for regular. Not sure if they had any (didnt see any bags on handles, but didnt really look either), but thats what it was priced.

very true. like i said earlier, it's like raising taxes to help the economy. I cannot afford to Not pay taxes in protest, no more then i could afford to Not buy gas ( i use my vehicle for work).

Granite Falls Murphys USA was $4.03 yesterday, $3.99 off exit 105, $3.89 off exit 116, and $4.19 Off exit 103, hope that helps some of you fellow travelers

From that article near the bottom:
“In the best case scenario, it will likely take seven to 10 days to ramp up production to the pre-Hurricane Ike levels,” Parsons said.

AAA Carolinas recommends that motorists drive conservatively, only fill up when their tank falls below a quarter of a tank, consolidate trips and use vehicles with the best fuel efficiency.

In two weeks, we should see real changes at the pump since crude is down around $90/barrel. Figure everyone has heard now that Ike didn't do hardly any damage to the oil industry, so they won't panic and run out to refill all the cars that they just topped off last Friday. Sales at the pump should be super slow for 1-2 wks while the stations get refilled and the sheeple burn all the gas they bought last Friday.

Asheville area update-$3.89- $4.59 around here. Many stations are out of all but high test.

I keep my motorcycle full and my Mustang gets around 22 MPG. Not really affecting me much. Plus my dealership is 4 miles from home.

My wife is a mobile dog groomer however. Her E250 weighs 6500 and gets 7 MPG. This really hurts her profit margin.

thats mee.......

i havent seen diesel under $4.00 all summer. so i havent been driving my 3500 much but u bet im driving it this week .thanks to my local mex. resturant !!! so :flipoff2:to the fuel companys
