"Gonna do it right...maybe!!??" Fuller's new XJ build!!!

There's things to do but he doesn't wanna pay me my rate to "piddle" and clean lol
Lol I never minded being a top-rate custodial engineer. I'd lose my mind after about 50 laps around the shop, but still. I'd even found myself chipping slag off of the weld tables! Hammering layers of paint off of paint racks...lots of thinking time to be had.

Are you salary? I assume you don't get paid when you're not working...

I get paid the same whether I work, don't work, or work 3 times more than I should. The joys of salary.
Right? I always loved the weekend/holiday calls from work with the boss from my last job asking me if I had my laptop on me and if I could log in remotely for one thing or another. My wife loved that.

No hourly but he's pretty slack like that lol. I'm not hurting for money so I'll take few fxtra hours here and there to work on my own projects.
I go in at 6am too

I need a faster paced job to be honest lol

Nah, I'm doing the work of 2previous people already. The process after mine are too slow :D. I'm not a designer or fabricator but a "doer", once I have my materials and list of what to build, oh it's on. Sad part is the cheap ancient welders can barely keep up. Wish we had a 460 then I could really fly.

Jeep coming along though...so far I like it

Sounds like they need to expand your job responsibilities.
You should meet John in person, like i did.
Dude is a family man, which means alot to me.

I admit feels good to take my time and make things look good. These are my neatest work yet on link tabs and such.

I'm not saying he's not a good guy, it just sounds like he's being underutilized. He sounds really quirky, which means we'd probably get along great.
Yep. Now you are going be invited to the next shindig at my crib.

Not even gonna lie those brackets look better than what I could make on my own. Keep it up and take your time. You know going slower to go faster (not having to redo it). If you have a question stop ask get answers think threw what was said and use it.

John,

You breezed over the coil question. Did you literally cut the coils or did you change to a 4" lift coil?

Looks pretty clearly like a cut coil to me.

Which is fine if they were too tall. Sure its not the best pressure distribution on the coil bucket, but I don't see anyone else running teflon spacers top and bottom to reduce rotational effects of compression and extension either. It's a beater XJ. If it gives you the ride height you need, run it!

But in the spirit of teaching, I want him to understand that cutting a spring changes the length AND the spring rate. The whole point of doing links, as he said for "daygum flex". The spring rate might be inappropriate now.

While I agree with your point of teaching him right and wrong. I also feel he will be perfectly fine in this situation and may actually benefit from the increased spring rate. His cage probably weighs 1000lbs, he could use some extra spring rate...

That said, I hope he didn't just cut out 2" of coil expecting it to lower the ride height 2"

No I forget what it was but did lots of research and found the magic number to cut.

So, did you run the numbers through a calculator or just build some links to wherever you felt was the right spot?
Both, did stupid amount of research then went with what I decided was best
