Got the short course racing itch?...

It will be very tight I'm sure. My s-10 was very tight as a std cab for me and I'm slightly less than 6 ft. I'm sure it can be done but seat placement and whether you run a stock dash will be very critical. It could potentially add a lot of extra work to how the seat mounts are done also.

The stock dash weighs 100# by itself. That's got to go in the trash.

Is there any specs on this class yet? Stuff like weight, displacement, basic construction, safety needs to be established before construction would begin or the class will be doomed from the start.

http://www.broliteracing.com/rules/

They don't list a weight restriction, but I think there needs to be one. The Lucas rules that the class is roughly based on require a 2600# minimum, including driver.

Lucas rules appear to allow swapping rear axles. Just needs to have been available in that model year.... not clear with the current Bro Lite rulebook, but Explorer 8.8s are out. Biggest advantage for the 8.8 is being able to run 4.88, 5.13, or 5.71. 7.5 bottoms out at 4.56.

heh heh heh...gentlemen's racing...

noble idea!

what is the stock rear in a Ranger?

Just looked it up. Came with a 8.8 after '90 in 4.0 l models anyway!

Yeah, but 4.0s aren't class legal. As far as I can tell... It's almost a certainty that a 4 cyl came stock with a 7.5. That's not a problem in and of itself... The 7.5 and 28 spline 8.8 are very, very, similar... Maybe you can put 8.8 gears in a 7.5 housing? Maybe that's the loophole that Scott was talking about....

Both are c-clip I believe. I'd worry more about landing under power and breaking a shaft/loosing a dagger attached to a wheel on the track than stripping a few teeth off anyway. C-clip eliminator might be a better investment than an axle swap IMO.

I'm kinda worried about the c clip too.

I wouldn't spend any money on axles yet. I think the plan is to get a few out and test on the 7.5 and see how long it'll last.

My idea was to put a motor claim at around $1200 or so since that is what you can go to the parts store with and by a reman. You could refresh your own motor for much cheaper of course. And before you turn your nose up at a parts store reman just remember that some of you got beat by an Advance Auto special in my 4cyl TJ on a number of occasions.

Anybody got a one of these trucks yet and can take a few measurements for me in the next day or two?
I dont have one that im building, YET, but i do have a single cab one that i drive everyday with almost 300,000 miles to measure for you haha

I need I know how tall the drivers window is and how long it is top and bottom
Then I need to know how far apart the rear frame rails are just inside the rear bumper.

What's the warranty like on those? Bring it back four days later with a rod through the block, and they swap it out just like its a Cardone master cylinder?

I know I would need an extended cab for sure

Not the ring gear size. I was thinking the 31 spline axles in the 8.8 vs 28 in the 7.5. There is a c-clip eliminator available for the 8.8. Not sure if there is one for a 7.5. Your are def right Chris. That 'spear' would be more fearsome than anything else that could happen to a rear.

Yes, hunting for loopholes will, as it always has been, bad for a series. It drives up costs! But all racers will find em and exploit them. That is why NASCAR, INDYcar and the rest are where they are today. Not gonna say I like it. I have just accepted it as a part of racing. If anyone thinks this isnt how it is, they're being naive. I have seen it in both pro racing and club racing. As someone who has raced Saturday night dirt late models, and been a builder of SCCA club racers, NASCAR stock cars, and even some NHRA drag cars, I have seen, and have been a part of, reading a rule book for what it doesn't say. Not what it says. That's racing. Always has been.

Putting together solid rules would be much better for any series than vague rules or any lack of rules. I would advise beginning any such venture with that in mind! I personally would love to see racing that was truly driver-centric!

Oh...
Racer's Adrenalin combined with rule 15-3/2 sounds like could make for a lot of punches being thrown in the pits! :D

Pretty sure those trucks all got 28 spline shafts regardless of whether they were 7.5s or 8.8s. Either way, summit lists a c clip eliminator for the 7.5. Shouldn't be a big deal to swap in. Only $160, too. Moser piece.

I agree Scott. Didn't mean my earlier comment as a jab at you, more as sarcasm about the idea that nobody would cheat.

"Restriction breeds creativity" The more rules you come up with the more creative ways guys will find around them No doubt about it.

I really like the idea of this being a "stock car" like race. Some guys will build their own car, some will buy a marsfab car, some will buy a right side performance car and whoever else.

It'll be like Robby Gordon vs Hendrick Motorsports and Roush in nascar lol.

Anybody got a definite on what fuel pressure/flow these motors require. I'm reading 50-55. trying to source a decent reliable pump

Sounds right for pre-OBD2 Ford EFI. Any way to run a stockish pump inside the cell? It's either that or an E2000... which, btw, is more or less the stock application.

Edit: the part photos on Rockauto look almost exactly like what was in fullsize trucks of the same vintage... all the way down to the chassis harness plug. Regulator is downstream someplace, probably at the fuel rail, with a return to the tank, etc.

Yea I thought about in the cell. I need to see what your guys opinion on that is. In the cell requires more labor/money but it could mean a cheaper pump. Outside the cell is easier to change in the Pitts and much easier to install plumb and mount. So basically we'd need to weigh the options and decide.
I'm looking into the carter 74015 at the moment. What do you guys think of it?

Or possibly the plain ole msd 2225 which seems a little low on the pressure side but I've found a few guys who say it works fine
