Hurricane Helene

Finally got a help to drop an alternator and got @Noel and company on their way…

Others have it worse, but we managed.

Good times fellas and safe travels, your help has been beyond words. The friendship eternal. 🇺🇸

Repairs evolved an axe, an arrow, crab legs and personal steaks. Truely blessed to be in the company of such humble and giving individuals. These dudes did the Lords work and our after hour shenanigans were hilarious.

Great way to unwind after a long day and for me 8 days of an emotional and physical marathon. I am exhausted, travel safely gentlemen.

The water situation is interesting to me. Bottled water is heavy and creates a lot of trash in an area already overflowing with trash. Same with single use propane tanks and grill tanks. Are moves being made to truck in bulk potable water to refill personal containers yet? Same question with propane? I would imagine that local propane bulk plants probably got washed away since they are generally in town, but I would think moves were being made to set up 1000gal tabks to fill up grill tanks. It's a lot easier to run a bobtail up and fill up a few big tanks than to just keep hauling up bulky grill tanks 4 gallons at a time

Its what's easily available and logical for the moment. Don't create a problem for a solution.

Right, but it's not long term sustainable. And this is going to be a fairly long term situation. Im just wondering if anything is in the works? It takes a lot of work to rebuild a bulk propane plant, I have one. You can drop and fill a 1000gal tank in an hour.

Convenient for the situation, no ideal, but it can come from everywhere. Tanks and trucks are coming in. And surprisingly the towns are building back faster than I would ever imagine

Made it up further into some remote areas. Got alot of stuff dropped and folks helped out. It’s bad. And anymore rain they will be screwed. So much road is missing with more ready to go at any moment.

Went up with 5 other fellas and my son. Reported to a small Fire Dept. outside Newland. We coordinated ahead of time. Upon arrival few leaders had shown up and those present were looking exhausted. The pre meeting phone call led us to believe we were doing ground work and shuttles of supplies.
After killing an hour or so we redirected to Spruce Pine Fire Department. They sent us to a large Baptist Church who was coordinating out reach and supplies to the community. Upon arrival it was hugely apparently they had way more organization and direct communication to the community. We were able to register and list skills and equipment picked few things up they had and spent the day doing work orders as they needed us to.
We removed some trees, tarped a few roofs and tore out a saturated bed room and ceiling of one home.

We took water and food as instructed to offer and had zero takers. The Church and every Fire Department or similar drop off was absolutely inundated with bottles of water. They were housing a few folks and making meals around the clock.

The realness of the damage is shocking and oddly humbling.

The amount of folks in and out all day in every type of transportation and level of equipment was impressive. It was very apparent who came to do what ever task at hand those looking for a feel good vibe. The over all amount of control over emotions, calmness of character and grace displayed by those manning the Church was blessing among the chaos.

Seemed to me like many folks came to joy ride.

They had two tanker trucks of potable water here in Glenwood….pretty sure I heard there were more on the way to this area as well.

I wouldn’t worry too much about them plastic bottles. Gonna be a lot of brush to burn for a while…they gonna disappear.

There were water tankers brought in almost immediately. Most people don't have multiple gallon jugs or water totes though. I know they ran into that problem in asheville had water but no real way to give it out

sounds like the Baptists On Mission site in Spruce Pine. I'm going up to their Hendersonville site Tuesday to volunteer for the week doing chainsaw and demo work. Very well organized operation, and they feed and house their volunteers.

They have a tanker in old fort as well. Several tankers all over the place. But as stated, how many gallons could most people take? I personally don’t have any jugs for clean water. Hell I’d be filling up tea pitchers and stuff I guess. I do think the gallon jugs and the 2 gallon jugs would make more sense. But they are like a milk just and will just bust too easily

Glad you were able to get the truck fixed. Plus the comradery is important too. You are a god send to many people. Thanks again!!!!!

You're making me very proud to know you @Noel You're rocking it like I wish I could.
Absolutely!!

I knew about him from the forum but I didn't know how truly impressive this man is until this disaster. So MANY here jumped right up and started helping, but @Noel really shines like a diamond (to me)

He really deserves all the applause and red carpet treatment that usually goes to athletes and stars. Because folks like him are the TRUE heros and people we need to be promoting.

Here's another one that doesn't ever look for praise but always goes above and beyond. I've known drew for a few years now and I'm always more impressed with this man every single time I have an interaction with him. Whether it's his knowledge, skill or heart, the man goes 4 counties over and back out of his way to help you regardless of who you are.

There's way more folks in just this thread alone that deserve to be a knowledged for their efforts, but these are two that I felt I had to brag on this morning. Just can't say enough good things about them

Making one more run today. Kids wanna help so we’re going to the Boone area where it’s hopefully less riff raff. Got a ton of fuel, a lot of cold drinks for people. Btw if you go up handing people a cold coke is the highlight of their life for the day. They have had warm bottle water for a week. Still have some of @No fries hygiene kits to give out. And having the kids make candy/goodie bags for the kids while we drive up. Thanks for everyone’s help.

@jeepinmatt took all week last week and ran around the Boone area with his excavator and saws. He's another one that needs some recognition. That's why you haven't seen him post on here in a while.

He may still be up there, idk.

Awesome of him, if anyone can get ahold of him. I’m happy to bring him fuel to help. My number is 3362550099

could anyone haul off some trash from swannanoa today? Dude I work with lives up there and doesn’t have a truck. It’s food trash and gonna attract critters soon.
There’s make shift collection centers all in town. I’d be willing to bet if he went down and asked someone would follow him back home to help. Everyone is helping everyone so much up there
