Hurricane Helene

News today is they’re turning folks around at the state line on 70 goin up the mountain unless you can show you’re supposed to be there.

The beauty of helicopter ops is you can land them where ever you want as long as you have permission of the land owners. Easy to set up a remote base and just fly to and from it, I mean what's the "FAA" really going to do? If authorities show up at that base to shut you down, well there's some amendments to protect against that. I guess they could setup a TFR over everything, even then.... All hypothetically speaking of course

Except for refueling

Except for refueling
I worked around a crew doing power line inspections with helicopters in highschool and they would fuel the hughes 500 at a remote base/landing site (usually along a farm road) using a pickup with a transfer tank/pump like you would with equipment.

Crazy how they are potentially blocking flights, even though on ADSB exchange the airspace looks pretty packed west of here.

I rode up with Clay today to deliver another load to Boone.

So many folks up there helping 🤘🏿

Man what a long day but worth it. Left at 7am got home at 9pmul

Used my truck and trailer

Carried in 240 cases of water. $5000 worth of food and supplies. From grills, propane, blankets, toiletries, diapers, women products, etc

Even got to see a guy fixing his small helicopter. He is doing small loads all over the mountains.

Glad I can be a small help and hopefully we can do more later

We took about 25000lbs of hay up to green mtn. Some areas looked untouched while others looked like mini tornadoes ripped through everything.
There were tons of donation sites that had tons of stuff.
On the way back we went theough swannanoa, old fort and black mtn. The lower elevations near the river were horrible and the folks on the hill had mini landslides all over the place. Those people need temporary housing more than supplies right now.

Supplies in the areas are bleeding. I think more areas need help or wait and see what’s needed.

Another truck wreck on 70 today, its appears to be a daily thing now.Poor ole jake went to south greene HS to meet up w some folks to go help clean up but had a flat and missed his group.Truck was so low after the flat he couldnt get the factory bottle jack under the frame.Hurt his pride but he called me to bring a floor jack.Tonya saw on FB where they were needing help unloading trucks at one of the local drop off places .Her and Jake went there to help and was told they needed some one w a trailer to deliver stuff.Called me and I brought a enclosed trailer to fill.Stood around for about two hours waiting on the woman to decide where I was goin and what I taking.MAJOR DISORGANZATION and no real plan in place, what a mess.About 6;30 she decided to send a load to Asheville but I wasnt goin over the mountain at night not knowing for sure how things were.

Went across the Dam over the Nolichucky river today.River has washed all the way back to the limestone. They said the river at the dam is now 77 feet wider than before.DH Griffin is there tearing down the old power house.

I made a trip up today with a charity that had items requested by Emergency Management. Diapers, adult diapers, baby wipes, precharged power banks and health care packages. Had the bed and my trailer full. It was a long day but worth it. I will say, I went to three locations today. All of them were greatful, but they were all overstocked except for a few things. They all had tons of water.
