Kodak rock closed?

Tried today but it was slick as hell and I didn't wanna break the dd Xj lol.

If the trail is to tough stay off it. It's simple really there's a ton of trail find ones that suit your style and rig.

If that's the mutual feeling, putting obstacles at every trail entrance that is impassable for atv's and motorcycles will solve all the problems. Wonder if that goes for any truck tires coming off of the creek bridges. If your vehicle is too wide to stay on the bridge, you should stay off that trail.

For the record sir,
I do not hate on any offroaders of any kind.
Full size, atv and side x sides, we are all in this together.
My comment was not directed at any group.
And def not you.

My comment is to everyone no any group if you feel a trail is beyond your skill or your rig then stay off everything doesn't need a bypass

This would def help with trail plugs and would help minimize the impact on the forest. Plus it would help the regrowth of the areas that have been made into illegal bypasses.

Meant to quote the one above you, nothing personal. I'm not jabbing at anyone, I'm on team 4x4. Uwharrie is just down the road from me. It's a gem that I'd like to keep around.

Each one of those obstacles that are on the trail needs a legal bypass. When the bypass becomes worn too much, why not block it off and reroute the bypass. Moving the bypass from one side to the other from time to time doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Im not talking about a 50 ft bypass, Just enough to get by the difficult spot. If you block the trail to people who can't make it over or up the rock, you're limiting them to only one spot. Having nobody to create a way around or up the rock will eventually limit the place to a very small group. The place won't last long then.

I think since its been made clear that we need to be getting the trails "up to standard" a big part of making a difference would be focus on silt traps and most importantly illegal bypasses. I think using natural barriers like logs and stuff along with a sign stating that this is not an approved bypass would help. Some people simply don't care, and it will take time to weed these people out, but I believe there is a larger number of people who do not know better.

To save time and money, I can tell you first hand that a log will stop atv's from using a hillclimb bypass. It's how I found out that I'm actually on a bypass from time to time. It's not permanent, but you're not going to deter the kind of person that takes the time to move it out of the way.

A log in the way won't help too much on the flatter runs.

Yeah plenty of people will be willing to move it, but with a sign and a good bunch of us willing to move it back and keep a check on theses spots it will make it clear to many that its not part of the system. I will be heading down Wednesday to do a little solo camping. I don't mind taking the time to try to block up the bypass at the ledges on Daniel. Enough to deter the people who actually care. Maybe if you guys come by and see its moved again, take a moment to move it back. PITA I know but its a start.

Jack pot! This is some of the items and direction the FS eants us to take

Daniel use to be a motorcycle only trail, and it had two large steel posts in the ground at the start of the trail to prevent an ATV from attempting to go up.

Certain clubs adopt trails to help maintain them, getting involved with a well established club is the best way to make a difference and stay in the know. There is a section for clubs on here where you can read up on club info. I'm personally a big fan of CTB and want to join. Slowly getting to know those guys and they are a great family oriented club that's heavily involved with Tread Lightly and trail preservation.

Do all the trails have a club that maintains them? Where can I find more info on this program?

Most of the trails have at least one club partner, many have two clubs assigned. There is a form available from the Ranger Office that you fill out and then you are assigned a trail. Contact the Ranger Office, they will be glad to answer any questions you have about the program.

I have the hard copy of the trail maintenance agreement that clubs use and will try to get that transcribed and added for everyone's access. If anyone has suggestions for other documents or information relevant to URE, we can add them as sticky threads here in the forum.

Terry will be out of the office till next monday. I have sent an email also. I will be in a holding pattern until I hear back from her.....

I haven't been to URE in years, but I have been part of a crew that fought with lawbreakers elsewhere. We are doing so with trespassers and poachers now in some areas up here in WNC.

One thing we have found to be very, very effective of simply taking pictures. Lawbreakers hate to be photographed, and if it becomes common knowledge that they will be photographed and those pictures handed over to law enforcement it drastically cuts down on what they do.

Big signs that say "Volunteers are patrolling and taking photographs of illegal activity, to include drinking and going off trail. These pictures will be turned over to law enforcement" coupled with some folks doing so won't eliminate the problem, but it will cut down on it. People do things now because they know there are no consequences.

And the great part is that it is something anyone can easily do on the trail, as most already have cameras.

Great idea!! Maybe we can get the Ranger's email address and those with smart phones can email the pics on the spot. Ranger can sit at the hunt camp and grab them when they leave.

i am all about helping to keep the trails clean and keeping them in good shape and doing what ever it taked to keep the trails open but if you send a bunch of people up there to take pictures of people with the intention of giveing them to the law that is really going to piss them off and i would be willing to bet it would result in quite a few fights and with the amount of people that cary guns up there i just feel like this is a very very bad idea i camp on the trails all the time and i am always picking up beer bottles and other trash left behind by others and it pisses me off but all it takes it one idiot with a camara and one drunk idiot with a gun and all the trails will be shut down forever

What about if the guy with the camera has a gun?

Drinking and carrying is a big time felony. That would be REALLY dumb.

agreed very stupid cant tell you how many times i have seen it there people do stupid things every day and if the camra guy had a gun that just means 2 people get shot im just stating the obvioius if your not the law dont try to inforse it just my 2 cents

That wont work.... No phone signal. We could go one further and print thesr pics and have a wall of shame at the outpost!!

Yeah, we should just give up, stay home and take up stamp collecting.

"If you say you can't, you're always right."
