KOH coverage is up.

What are the specs of your rig? I saw you couldn't get the buggy finished in time and it looked like you were hitting it with a modded TJ.
  • Wheelbase?
  • Axles?
  • Tires?
  • Weight?
  • Suspension?
Your team and the JKOH team were the two I was trying to follow and oddly enough, I didn't see any pics or updates the whole day...... and I watched for like 8 hours straight!
The only coverage I saw of you guys and team 80 (JKOH) was on Pirate right after you passed tech. The jeep looked sweet!
I followed your tracker until you got to outer limits and guessed that is where you may have broken down.
It was a full bodied YJ.......people looked at us like we were lunatics...until we passed six buggies including the Torchmate rig in the first 6 miles.Outerlimits claimed us when a bad line around a broken buggy broke 4 different axle shafts in a 100 yard span:shaking:
I've known the Campbells for some time. Yes, they've got sponsors, and have nice stuff. But they by no means had the biggest budget out on the lake bed. I'd wager that there were at least several other cars out there that had more money into them.

also....do not forget, the car Shannon won in is 3 years old now. AND, as far as racing w/ $$$$$$, of the fastest, big money, all-out KOH racing teams out there, Shannon is one of the very few that BUILT the car he's racing (and winning) in.

I never said he had the biggest budget. I just saw the backing he AND other big names had. It was impressive and like I said before. It makes a BIG difference!

that pic says nothing. i was pitting with travis and we had 20 to 30 people just hanging around the pits most of the time. people would just walk around and hang out not help

The pic had nothing to do with the people in front of it :shaking:. I thought his pits in the lakebed area was pretty cool and showed what how prepared he was. Did you look inside? It was a full on race shop in the middle of desert. He was very COOL and totaly approachable.Dude, he had a freaking had a crane @ the 30 mile marker remote pit area!! Again impressive!! If Mom and Pop, brother and friends hauled all that out there on the back of a gator then great! It just looked awesome and seemed like a whole bunch of money, time and planning went into all of it. We had all of the above but it would have taken more time money blah blah blah to be more competitive.

It takes talent AND a big budget to consistantly be in the front....That didn't use to be the case in this type racing (or any type racing in it's infancy) but it is now, period. You can get to be a great driver but at some point you're going to need $$$$ to run in the front. If you ain't got both you're what they call "filler".
My biz partner ordered a new Barry Wright dirt car chassis and new motor becuase his 2 year old one wasn't getting it done anymore. !5 years ago he could run the car many seasons and stay in the front..new technology cost $$$$$ and the faster the sport grows the faster the technology. It's rich mans racing and I figured out awhile back, I ain't rich!

BINGO !! I found this out when we rolled up to the tech line and I finally was able to see the competition. Anything can happen for sure but most of those guys were in another league. Great time and look forward to next year:D

I'd say that's possible. It'd be easier with another 5 or 10k. But even then that's a cheap race car in any motorsport.
You'd be shopping around for some uesd go fast parts for a while but it's doable. Hell I'm running a junk yard 14 bolt in the back of the next car probably. If you take the time to tune some 2.5" coilovers that's all you need. With a minimal investment in just an iron block motor you can get 500hp no problem these days. A TH400 to handle it can be built for less than a grand.
Then you just have to have the skills to put it together yourself. Paying someone to do that would kill a budget racer.
The front of that car is every bit of $30k, yes. An equal performing front end could be built for around $15-20k now. His is expensive because it says Pro-Am on it. Their stuff is pricey.
But, you don't need that junk to beat him. You just need to put a car through the beating that he does and have it stay together. He would have posted that same time in the solid axle front car. Jason Schere almost did.

I guess I stirred this thread up a bit. I'll echo what Ron posted. You've been there and done it, and I have not. I'm just a trail rider. If you say a top five car can be built for $30-$35k, then that is pretty badass. I would not have thought it to be possible with the all the high dollar rigs out there now. I think it would be cool as shit if you build one, and win it next year.

It seems the toughest part (besides getting the rig to stay together) for those not within say 8 hours of the Hammers, is to be able to do worth while testing and tuning in an environment completely different from the race course.

although, on that note....

if you were to make a run at KOH, you'd be almost insane not to just buy Jason's buggy. He just put it back up for sale for $60k. There's more than that in parts in that thing.

We watched the leaders come through Backdoor (early on lap 2) and then went over to about RM 54 (down out of the last saddle and across the desert back to the Start/Finish line) and saw the leaders come through... part of our group went out to Chocolate Thunder to watch after that...

Should be able to start putting photos up tonight, I think.

While I'm sure that car might have another season in it...it's gotta be getting pretty close to beat by now...

What'd you think about the new style MT/R kevlars?

Yeah, there were several crane trucks there this year. Not sure who owns the one in the video. It must have fawking sucked to drive it out to the remote pit.

They said that Todd and crew drove there service truck all the way out there!!! Now that would have sucked!!!!!

Dude when that helicopter is chassing you or it's hovering down below in a valley with the camera pointed up...you feel like you're winning everything.
