Lawn and Landscape

Big ones like those, I will walk around with a 5 gallon bucket, pull them and stuff them in the bucket. The little ones get hit with Killzall, but I try to be careful not to hit anything else.

Good stuff right here. We use it along the fences, and anything else we want to kill. Spray a fenceline, and by the the time you get done for the day its yellow.

Please explain this to me. Deanna, the new wife, has no idea where her tank is. Her house is old and needs work and the plumbing is on the list.
If there is a rectangular, dead spot of grass between the house and the drain field, then it's easy. If not, then get a probe (metal t-handle about 3-4ft long with a sharp point on the end) and start poking around til you hit something that echos and sounds hollow. Also, your county might have records or where it's at and how the system is laid out. But if it's an older house probably not.

High concentrate roundup is best I have found chemically wise. Digging it up and removing the root mat is the only way to really get rid of it. You gotta get it all at once. It spreads via the root system so it's like playing whack-a-mole.
I have no bamboo removal experience but if you cut it down, use a paint brush and paint pure round up on the stump and it should kill it. I do this with any nuisance trees that I cut down.

If you know where the pipe exits the house then follow it with the probe until you find the tank.

Yea I'm not looking forward to that part of her house. The plumbing is a mix of copper, pvc, and cast iron. The cast iron is only on the sewer line where it comes in the basement. Yea I know probably not a good sign.

Ok, as said in another, I may be moving soon. My backyard sucks and always will unless some top soil is brought in. That being said, I can seed it to bring up some new grass to look better, then will die. That's what I'm looking to do. But, it is earlier now than I would normally do that. Can I seed now and it come up? I know it's still hot. I'm in Winston Salem.

I seeded last year right around Labor Day. It rained for a couple of days after that, and I had great germination. The following 4 weeks were dry and almost 90 degrees every day. In some areas of my yard, it ALL died, and I had to reseed again in early-mid October. I will never seed that early again. I'm going to wait until the end of September/beginning of October.

Only if the weather breaks to cooler and less humidity and a little rain. Otherwise you can get "Damping off" fungus that attacks seedlings and it will all die a quick death! Early-mid September is right around the corner. Clean up all debris now and put down some calcitic lime and water it in. Then as soon as temps start to ease off, go ahead and seed. I will sometimes aerate and seed as early as September 10 and if weather breaks even a little earlier but these are on lawns that have a sprinkler system, some shade, and the owners have an event in Mid October that I need to be ready for, and all with the agreement that it may not work so well. (you are planning to aerate it first right?)

Yes, I will plug first. It has plenty of shade, as well. Aside from the Rocky soil, that's part of the growing grass problem too.

Need some help with getting something growing ASAP.

Not concerned with having an epic green yard that's weed free. Hell if weeds hold the bank better, BRING it!!

I just need to know what seed to go and buy and start spreading. This is all sub-soil that was cut, so no topsoil. I just need something that will GROW. Any suggestions?

Weeds!

Winter rye will work for you in a couple months, and keep it stable til spring. The lack of topsoil will be the biggest challenge, but I got new fescue to grow fine on clay 4 years in a row. Then I brought in 2-3 inches of topsoil and a sprinkler system, and now I just reseed in the fall instead of planting new fescue and watching it die every summer.

I would just buy regular K31 from Tractor Supply or wherever you can find it the cheapest and straw it.

IF you can get it done before it rains, go get some K31 and or turf type fescue seed and fertilize and STRAW the hell out of it. If you can't get it done before it rains, wait about 3 weeks, and do the same BUT YOU HAVE TO CULTIVATE THE SOIL AGAIN BEFORE SEEDING! Use starter fert or 17-17-17 or 19-19-19. It's too early to even consider rye grass.

I noticed that! Do you know why?

Supply and demand, less seed harvested, less seed period, I know of several farms in Oregon that are growing hazelnuts this year because there getting top dollar

Also the northern markets are using more fescue than years past, less seed to go around

K31 is in very limited supply, hence the price more than I have ever seen

If you find k31 make sure it’s clean

Honestly I'm not looking for a putting green. I need something that'll grow fast, and secure the slopes

DOT grade is fine. Hell WEEDS are fine...I just need a bag of seed (or 50)

Hydroseed, FTW.. Contractors use seed/erosion blankets to get cover grass on dirt quickly. Im sure it isnt the best grass, but will come up quick with water.
