Lots of interesting news today

This should be fun. I mean, a 15% error rate is acceptable when ordering your food right?
I’m surprised when I get anything even remotely close to my order when I go through the drive-through anymore but hey, I can’t blame they/them and damn right they deserve that $15 an hour +. Even after they introduced the automated ordering machines the people in the back are still running about 50% as far as order accuracy if I decide to go in whether it be dine in or takeout.

A solid 50% of the time now I just order ahead w/ my phone. Harder for them to mess up "app order #23". Get better deals that way anyway.

Until the wife and I have a late night and an emergency run the the farm store for XYZ and decide to order ahead some fast food because convenience. Show up to go inside and their closed do to undermanning. Lady at the drive thru window says I have to wait in the drive thru line like everyone else. Fawk that and what’s the point?? Also, order ahead is still holding a solid 50% accuracy just like digi robot order thing if I go inside. It’s still the human error of IDGAF that messes up a paint by the numbers order. We’re not talking about a high end steak house here.

We have three Taco Bell's and only one of them gets your order right most of the time in person. The others mess it up even when ordering ahead.Yesterday was Tonya's bday and she wanted Olive Garden for lunch.Best service we had had in a long time.People just dont care anymore.

Arby's here is alot like that.Always understaffed. Lobby might be open, might not.We were on our way back from Liberty NC a couple of sat nights ago and stopped at the Arby's in Witheville VA to eat.Ordered two 2/$7 specials w a sweet tea and a Coke Zero.Chick says "oh we're out tea and are not gonna make anymore since its late''(it was 8pm) and you'll have to go into the Pilot to get your ice. Finally get our food and have to clean our own table before we sit down. They gave us the wrong sauces so we had to go back and the correct ones.Part of our order we could tell had been cooked for a while and was dried out.Trash can was running over so we left it on the table

yep, and the unemployment rate is historically low, only 3.4%. More demand for workers than there are people to do the jobs... so the management can't really afford to fire people unless its absolutely necessary bc they'll have a hard time replacing them. [side note reminder for @benXJ why decreasing the # of young people coming into the economy is bad]. Put on top of that that real-world bills inflation is faster than wage growth, so they're functionally underpaid, net effect = people have no motivation to give a shit at all.

Was working out of town a couple weeks ago.
Back in the hotel jamming out some computer work and realize fawk it -Im hungry and it 9:30.
Even on travel expense dime I didnt feel like doing a whole sit down deal. Order an online salad through zacbys across the street. Get over there to pick it up.
Sorry sir we dont have any lettuce, nor grilled chicken. (Trying to eat healthier so didnt want fried strips)
Well crap.
Ok just give me my money back and Ill go on down the road to chikfila.
Sorry we cant refund online orders.
Whatever dont feel like fighting.
Open the help us claim through the app.

That store is a franchise and they ahve already sent them their money all they can do is give me a credit for that store to use in the future....11 hours from home.

Fawk that noise.

Looks like FN want's to expand in Columbia.

Thought I would update this. FN was denied the expansion tax break. So they are going to the upstate with a new facility. At least they are staying in SC

Unemployment rate is from people LOOKING for a job. Not the mass of kids hanging out in front of cookout at 11pm on a Thursday night. There are PLENTY of people already in this country to work every single low skilled, low paying job. Remove most of the safety nets that we have now and watch it change. We don't need any more people here, especially zero education can't speak English don't have any discernable skill and will need some sort of government assistance from day 1 people. And when those people DO get a job, it's for less rate and that in turn drives the wages down for everyone. They live 10 deep in a 2 bedroom so they don't need much per hour. Then they'll say they can't find enough people....so Biden and Cooper let more in.

This nonsense doesn't just happen. It's cold calculated. It's for votes and control. Not because Arby's doesn't have sweet tea. Biden and Cooper don't care if you live or die.... except come tax time. Cooper wants to be seen wearing a mask outside marching with thugs and thieves and con men and criminals. That's what gets him elected.

You trust/believe/depend on the government far too much.

No shit Sherlock.
Its called the Employment participation rate - and its been steadily climbing for the last 3 years, and is now about where it was pre-Covid.
In other words, we don't have more people goofing off and being deadbeats now than we historically do. The reason the participation rate hasn't gone up higher is because a lot more people retired recently than normal - baby boomers. A lot never came back after 2008, an they've been steading increasing their departure since then, wit ha big push 3 years ago. Those people are pulling the participation rate down but there's aren't an equal number of NEW young people to replace them. Working rate among young people is the highest today than it has been since 2008, up a lot since 2013.
What we are seeing now is the expansion of the economy choking off from not having enough people to do the jobs wanted. The choice is either less business or more people. Or more automation, which is the point at hand here. Yes we can either do *some kind of magic thing* to get an even higher % of people working, but mathematically speaking, contrary to what you're told on the talk shows the relative % gain from that is very small.

you said 'unemployment rate'. then you shifted to participation rate, which yes, is trending upwards. I'll give you that. Still kinda low.

so, what 'some kind of magic thing'?
you mean less handouts?

Are boomers retiring early from jobs at IBM 3 years ago really skewing the pool of eligible McDonalds workers?
There are millions NOT looking for a job but COULD work if safety nets were removed. The gov't WANTS that low unemployment #. Makes Biden look good. They'll do whatever it takes to move the goalposts.
What about working at a fast food restaurant making sweet tea at 14 or 15? Why can't that happen at a mass scale?
We spend $1.5 trillion on SSI/welfare/snap/wic/free meals/section 8/energy assistance/all that. Why so much? Is it because we have conditioned a large percentage of the population that the gov't is there to take care of you?

We started free school lunch a number of years ago.....then free school breakfast.....what do you think is next? Adding to or taking away from those programs? What will get the most votes? What do you think a mass of 8 year old kid immigrants will do to that program? You think the programs to give your tax dollars to someone else will expand? You know it will.

We can't find 100,000 American citizens to do some low paying jobs? I think we can. With some motivation. With some incentives.

Mass immigration is not for jobs at Arbys, its for control.
We know what jobs we need to fill, and if it was that dire then put out a help wanted ad and only let properly trained people in...for those jobs.

That's a lazy ass (and probably improperly trained by the previous lazy ass) employee. Chickfila near work double charged me for an online order due to a system error, online help said I had to go to the store, I went to the store and talked to the (worthless) shift leader who I've seen firsthand on many occasions as I'm waiting in line. She tells me she can't do anything and I have to come in when the manager is there at 4pm (this was 2pm). A couple days later, I walk in and present the double bill situation to a helpful and motivated low level cashier guy, 20-30 seconds later he hands me a receipt with a credit and says "sorry about that". Damn, why can't the shift leader handle that? 😠

That sounds good in theory.

What you miss is those not working and not looking for work, many of them wouldn't work if they had to.
They'd steal from you before they'd flip burgers.

Participation rate also excludes supported spouses - and permanently disabled or unemployable.

You are hung up in the ideal and not realizing that humans aren't robots and wont do what you tell them. It sucks, I agree. But you aren't changing it.

I'm only going to touch this part
Are boomers retiring early from jobs at IBM 3 years ago really skewing the pool of eligible McDonalds workers?
Yes. Because they retire, that leaves a hole, Younger person takes their place. That leaves a hole. Somebody else moves into that spot. Trickle up.
That's how the employment world works.

EDIT: ok and this
Mass immigration is not for jobs at Arbys, its for control.
Its for maintaining a tax base.
That's why immigrants are required to have a job to get a Visa. You seem to think the door is just open to any bum. Its not.

The masses currently lined up at the border, men, women and children, have a job lined up here in the states day one? They will be a net producer day one? No tax dollars will be spent on any support of any kind? Nothing will be diverted that could otherwise help an American citizen? The schools are built ready to go? No strain on anything at all?

The door is open. For many the only thing they have to say is 'asylum' and 'yes I'll come back later to court' in Spanish and off they go.

Maybe they'll get good at making sweet tea and it'll all be OK

Oh, taxes equals control.

What you miss is that many won't tolerate theft....maybe you will, but I won't. There are millions more like me too. That problem would work itself out.

No one is telling anyone to do anything, except quit giving my taxes to someone else. Sure, not everyone will work, but remove some nets and some get back to work. Maybe enough to offset some of the retired IBM employees and work at Arby's.

You are disabled where you can't have any job of any kind or retired....all good. That's not who we are talking about. You get support. All for it.

Except when they are downsized. My brother is an engineer at GM. They have been slowly downsizing his department at about a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio (as three or four retire/quit/laid off, they only open 1 position to backfill). Gradually, the remaining workers are still expected to accomplish all the work done prior (and maybe even more). Leads to burnout of the remaining employees and you start to lose the good ones, replacing them slowly with new hires who hire on meeting only burnt-out frustrated employees. Quickly they become jaded and productivity suffers.

Just to add.We go to alot of auctions every year.On our PA trips we'll go to as many as 10 in a 4/5 day trip. They're everywhere up there. In the last couple of years(esp since covid) we have noticed alot more people at the sales and prices have gone up too. It's alot harder to get good stuff than it use to be.I blame that on Covid.I feel like alot of people had to find ways to subsidize their income or an entirely different way of making a living all together and started going to auctions to find stuff to sell on CL/MP or Ebay to do it and most never went back in the work force.

I wonder how many are redundancies or bloat.

however you forgot the most important part of the "Somebody else moves into that spot" scenario in modern day corporate America....both the 'younger person' and that 'somebody else' has to be bilingual and a part of the LBGTQ+BLT community

“This process is sometimes referred to as a ‘deletion,’ that is, deleting the emissions controls from the vehicle,” Mark Totten, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, said in a statement. “Deleting emissions controls from the vehicles can improve performance and fuel economy and save maintenance costs.”

I would think there are a lot more important things these people could be investigating. I assume follow the money is the goal here...
