Lots of interesting news today

The amount of people in their 30s in my office who are married and don't plan on having kids is kind of astounding to me.
same here. And I work with a lot of smart people, the kind you'd generally want to be creating the next generation

Yet the kind you don't want raising thw next generation are poppin em out like pez candies!

THAT'S RACIST!
Not at all. I know plenty of useless white folks procreating another generation of useless white folks. Uneducated, unskilled, or just lacking motivation leaves a few activities natural to all. F$ck@ng does not take a brain.

The shift for people very capable of raising good families is another sign of priority shifts in culture. Be it selfish or the new "programming" young people: your doing the planet and the potential risk of raising damaged children for xyz reasons being pushed it has changed the landscape of population quality.

It's sound elitist but good decent folks are hurting themselves more by not investing in the most lasting contribution possible from themselves......a future generation of value.

Its not even that deep.
Its that having kids is increasingly expensive and salaries not keeping up with the cost of living is making that worse. A larger portion of the population don't feel they have the financial means to support kids. And for those in higher incomes whoo are less affected by the rising costs, the pathway of education + intensive job training etc sets you back later in life to have that first kid.

I'm not sure I agree with this honestly. It's still perfectly doable to raise a family on a single income that's not 6 figures. But people aren't willing to do it. When we had our oldest I was making 35k/year and that was our whole income. We also started at 22 y/o.

It's a generational mindset. Folks my age tend to see kids as a burden and something that weighs them down, instead of the blessings they are that bring fulfillment and true meaning to life.

Damn, that got real deep real quick.

It all depends where you live and where you are regarding housing needs. Whats the difference in the cost of your home today vs when that first kid was born?
Around here I know so many people that are spending 50% of their income just on housing. Overt he last decade the amount the average family has as disposable income has dwindled a lot. Throwing a kid into the mix is a serious struggle..

I do agree that the priorities have shifted and people do not value kids as highly as they used to, when making the struggle was considered worth it.

Fair point. Our house payment has went up probably $200 in the 7 years we've been here. Biggest increase has really been food and other goods.

I also credit us being able to do what we do largely to never taking on much debt besides the house. It's easier to squeak by when you're not paying off 50k in various debts.

...oh I was totally gonna photochop a member of NC4x4 (actually thought of a couple of members) but decided against unleashing an unholy amount of butthurt  so feel free to imagine someone taking the place of cleavon, and understand I'm pretty good at Photochopping myself into various cat avatar pics (I hate cats and am deadly allergic to them, hence why so many cat Avatars)
