Mini Bike Thread

So.... TAV..... These things are freaking awesome. Unfortunately, mine flew apart almost immediately. Not sure why, but the bolt came loose and driver parts went everywhere. Note to self, locktite and impact the next one. Replacement is on the way already.

Anyway, for anyone with a bike similar to mine, you will need to clearance the backing plate substantially to get it to fit. I also had to use some spacers and move the whole assembly out 1/4" to clear my wide back tire.

Before it disintegrated, this thing was a beast. Would pick the front wheel up several inches and pulled up a couple hills that the bike wouldn't do with a clutch.

What did it do to the top speed?

So, my new one came today (gotta love Amazon!) and I can't say that it did much for top speed. It feels about the same, but I didn't clock it either. I will say, it did wonders for the bikes low end. I can puttz around and it just goes. Pulls up hills with ease that the clutch was smoking and barely made up. Bike also keeps speed better on road hills.

Where it all began...

Mini bike story. About 1974 Mom and dad, sister, brother and me were headed to Kerr Lake for a week of camping on a friends private property w a path to the shore where we beached the boat a mile or 2 from the County Line boat ramp. Rolling up old US-1, dragging the boat somewhere near Kittrell the 1971 Buick Electra 225 blew a hose or a belt and we were on the shoulder. Dad got his tool box and messed w the engine and found out what was wrong. He had bought a kid sized minibike so my brother and I could ride it when we were not on the lake fishing and exploring the lake. He took the minibike out of the boat, sat his 250#s on that tiny MB and rode off north to Henderson, mom was not happy about that " YOUR GONNA GET KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY!". About an hour an 1/2 later he rolled back w parts to fix the car and we rolled on to the lake and had a fine vacation. My lil brother crashed into a tree on the path to the lake and bent the forks and was banned from riding it. I ran off a trail and crashed into a briar patch and sprained my ankle good. Back home w my brother and I and friends riding it around our yards it lasted about 2 months.

This thing needs rear suspension. But by golly it goes.

Today's ride was very educational. First time taking the mini on the trail. TAV was awesome. The bike went everywhere I pointed it, and did so well. Went through some mud up to the breather and had no issues. Pulled several hill climbswith no problems to speak of, other than just getting hung up. The fat tires don't do as well in the ruts as normal dirt bike tires.

Lessons learned:
I need foot pegs.
My box needs reinforcement.
Frame probably needs to be braced. It didn't break, but took a helluva beating.
Need a suspension seat. I'm too old for that kind of beating.
When in water over the belt, keep moving. If you dont, you'll walk it out.

Well... shredded the belt at 58 MPH tonight. That was fun.

I'll just leave this right here...

Shredded another belt Sunday.... Gotta get a good one apparently.

Gave the piglet a couple Amazon upgrades after I melted the cvt belt the other weekend at GER...

Only issue is it bogging down at 3/4-WOT.... anybody know any quick tricks on a mikuni carb?

@McCracken can you post up details on your side car? Debating between a car or a trailer.

To be honest there's not a lot of science to it or details. I picked a cooler that I thought would work and built it around it. I tried to keep it as narrow as possible and strong enough to take people out ;) on rides. I'd like to try to build a trailer but I'm currently up to my neck in projects. I can pull measurements if that's what you're after.
