Well I spoke to Debbie at the ranger station. She stated we are not allowed to just pick up trash on National Forest Land. In order to be allowed to Volunteer for the Forest Service there is a little bit of paperwork to fill out. I just thought this was funny, I can't pick up trash with out a contract.
Debbie was very nice and grateful for the offer. But in order for us to do this she is faxing me a contract on Monday to look over and fill out, sign and get back to her. They will look it over and hopefully it will be approved by Friday.
So this is where I am at with the Forest Service.
FYI - Debbie was the nice one, Babara on the other hand, lets just say her people skills need sharping. You would have thought I asked her if I could dump radioactive waste there.

Does this go for URE also?

Update

I contacted the local newpaper last week when we started this, Well the Assistant Editor contacted me back via email today showing some interest. Hopefully they will pick this up. I gearing it as a NC Trail Clean Up Day. I will be sure that NC4x4.com gets stated.

We need all the good news out there we can get.

Edit: The newpaper just emailed me back, There sending a crew up to Brown Clean up as long as we get approved, Which should be not issue. This is great news.

Wow man, maybe you should be organizing this statewide event! I'd love to take a camera man with us on the trails while we're cleaning them. Would love even more to scare the hell outta he/she up on Daniel. :)

Me and my brother were just talking last night about going back to URE. I'm actually off this weekend so Saturday is looking pretty good for me. I'm going to subscribe to this thread so I can keep updated on everything.

I've been in S.C. since the Sunday morning after The Flats. Been out of touch with you guys and now I hafta leave this Thursday for Tennesee. I'm sorry that I can't be at the double parking lot to help out. I'd love to do a Customer Appreciation Day at the same time! A Hot Dog Free to every bag of trash or something! Da%& I wish I could get out of going! Oh well, I'm sorry I can't make it.

We will take pic's & you can owe us.

No problem man we thank you for the thought.

I am supposed to hear from them today, I will post it up when I do.
I am pretty sure this is their way of tracking the man hours used in the clean up.

I wonder in the Uwharrie Ranger can make the call the Brown Ranger and "speed up" this process?

Welp, my PC crashed on Thursday so I wasn't able to work on the logo/flier. We may be stuck with with something simple like a plain paper print out because I doubt the printing company will have time to get them done by Friday. I had planned on getting it to them Thursday/Friday, but well, yeah.. However, I still plan to work on the flier and preparation for next years cleanup days.

For next year, I'm thinking about having it put on magnets and stickers and would just sell those at cost. Would also have cheaper print-out versions in case volunteers didn't want to purchase them.

Got my jeep down at a buddys getting the new cat put on. Hopefully that will fix my problem. If not then I'll be riding with my buddy in his Burb. That big ass thing outta have plenty of room for trash. :D

hey Chris, a bunch of us will already be at URE this weekend camping since it's the last weekend it'll be open. you gonna be there all weekend, or just Saturday?

I hear it. well, we'll be there. Chad finally got his Toyota done and is taking it, I'll have my hunk of junk out there, and we'll of course have some other Toyotas.

he took it yesterday. I was supposed to go but never made. I left the house yesterday morning around 7:30, got less than 3 miles down the road, and blew a radiator hose. limped it back, filled it up with water and temporarily fixed the hole, and on my way to meet Chad and JonnyB somehow broke 5 of 6 wheel studs on the right front wheel. luckily my mom's house was on the way so I stopped there and pulled it in the shop and fixed it. I ended up putting a new radiator hose, the 5 new studs (that I drove all around God's creation to find), and new plug wires on it. me and my stepdad had to take the hub to his shop and use their ginormous press to get the old busted studs out. good times.

...not.

Wow dude you've been having some bad luck like me lately.

Battery keeps draining on my heep. I think it might be the fog lights but they're wired through relays. I disconnected the winch in case that's what it was. Then I have the power problems and now my oil pressure guage has a mind of its own. Plus there's this putrid mildew smell in the interior! lol Man I gotta pull that carpet.

I've got this hellacious death wobble at 35 mph that I'm trying to figure out now. THAT is pissing me off more than ANYTHING. I also need to get my rock lights put on before this weekend. I put 2 more big lights on my front bumper but I'm gonna end up taking them off. I think all those lights will be way too much work for my alternator. with just the 4 on the bumper on, I can hear it, and the truck idles down. haha.

I need to fix my roof rack. It started coming off last weekend at URE. I'm just going to take it off for the time being until I can get some new mounts. Plus I need to fix my wiring job and move the lights around a bit anyway. Don't like the wires showing. :)

Reposting this since we had lots of conversation in between. :p
