Few small ones nothing post about. FIL got a red drum the other day. Not to much action where we're at on the beach. They say the point is the place to be right now, when we drove by it was packed.

where about are you?

My daughter was the first to drop one at the farm this year. Got a doe for the freezer this evening. Had four of us scattered around the place in the woods. Weather
was great and the deer were moving good all over the farm.

I’m fed up deer hunting after this weekend. Got busted walking in, decided to hunt till 10 but it was so cold on top of the mountain I wasn’t prepared for the wind chill factor and got down at 9:15. Got down packed up and headed out there is a huge boulder 45 yards from my stand on the trail I walk in. Get past it and there is a doe walking up the trail 50 yards from me, and takes off.
Today told Miranda I’ll go do the stupid apple orchard thing with her today if I can be back by 3. We get back at 5 and I hustle up to mountain park at 5:20 and start creeping down the gravel road to where my trail starts and I watch a doe go across road towards stand 80 yards ahead of me, didn’t see anything else tonight.

I hope this isn’t a sign for this coming week have a permit hunt on dan river end of this coming week.

Don’t let getting busted discourage you. They’ll come back. Especially if it’s a smell and not a sight bust. The buck I killed last week smelled me out just before daylight. He blew at me, stomped, and trotted off. He was back again a little later feeding on my corn pile. I could make out four legs naked eye. Pulled up my scope and there he was. I’ve always read that they’re curious if it’s a smell thing. They blow and stomp in attempt to scare the unknown away if they can’t see you. They’ll come back around to figure out the weird smell for future reference a lot of times. At least that’s what the pros say. That’s what my buck did. They’ll get more bold in a few weeks come rut. You’ll get one. If I could separate from my wife for deer season and then get back together afterwards, I’d probably live in a deer stand.

The doe that busted me Saturday as I was leaving was probably the same one I heard blow as I was going in. That deer and the one from today didn’t blow when they saw me just turned and walked away

If you can attack it from a different direction or sit in a different spot i would. Got a guy at my club who keeps ruining one of my stands. He has one a few hundred yards away and hunts it every single morning. Can’t really say anything, but damn. Everyone knows you don’t burn one out like that. I went from seeing deer to just a random small doe here and there. Figured out why when I looked back through the sign in sheet. Dudes there like it’s his job.

Hunting in the mountains it’s tough to get in from a different direction, I’m planning to move trees a little further from the trails. But it’s a dang good spot it’s for 5 or 6 different funnels all coming together in a small area. Only down side is you have to come in on a deer trail. I’m also trying to stay up high to keep the neighbors happy, it will happen last year I just ran a camera all year. And bucks started cursing around thanksgiving and kept active there all winter.

I just want to kill a deer with a bow on the property I grew up on, there wasn’t deer around until the last 7-8 years

I’m buying a bow after the season. I want to bow hunt hard next season. I’ve never bow hunted. It’ll be a challenge for sure. I’m looking forward to it.

This is my second year. And first year I’ve hunted hard up here in WNC. I’m fortunate enough to have access to some large tracks of acreage that are managed well as well as the surrounding areas properties but it’s completely different hunting there compared to the mountains

I bow hunt so much more than rifle, that I ended up selling my 30.06. I've got more opportunities to bow hunt on other peoples properties.

@Loganwayne my BIL just got a saddle and is talking me into getting one. Said he could sit in it all day and his whole pack including climbing sticks is 7lbs. Don't think that includes his bow but he can now walk three times further than most of the hunters in his area.

Ya im sure you can get super light if you don’t use a platform and just the top of a climbing stick. Lone wolf full sticks are like 2.25lbs a piece some of these new sticks are same length as the wolfs and at or under a pound. A guy I hunt with uses a hand drill and carbon fiber bolts and his setup get him 25ft in less than 2 lbs.

It’s crazy how light some of the setups can get I’m happy just not having to drag a climber though the thick stuff or finding the perfect size tree to use the climber in

Had a family weekend trip to the lake this weekend. I was a little peeved that my mom scheduled it on opening day, but I got over it and everyone has had a great time. Especially our 3 yr old. He has had a blast.
Could be worse....you could be in one of the other 3 regions where we're still throwing sticks at them or smoking them out!

The best feeling I had 2 years ago was putting a doe we nicknamed 'the nanny' in the freezer...I swear she'd blow & stomp if a mosquito farted! Kept the rest of the herd on edge.

After reading you guy’s comments on the saddles I went down the YouTube hole watching them. I believe I’m sold. Next season I’ll be in a saddle. Wish I’d done more research. I just dropped over 300 bones on a summit viper. It’s comfortable as hell, but bulky and noisy to pack in. I was on my hands and knees a few nights ago on the way back to the jeep crawling through brush. That climber was getting snagged. Streamlined saddle would have been perfect.

One of my dad's cousins tagged this brute tonight!

Yea I got all the feedback on the saddle a day after buying a new climber and opening the box. They won't let you return a deer stand for "safety"
