NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

I wasn’t gonna shot a doe at this spot until late season but I just couldn’t stand it when I had seen 5 big old does and not a single one with a fawn or yearling. Plus my meat was lost in the flood so I don’t mind filling the freezer back up. Watched her roll back down the mountain 50 yards away

The box stand I built is still sitting on the trailer legless. Does that count?View attachment 358356
Bolt it down to the deck and make it portable!

I've only sat once and saw 10-11 deer, but none came within bow range. 5-6 of them were shooters so that gives me some hope!
My dad shot a doe opening day and clipped both lungs, but she still ran 250 yds...glad I saw 3 hours away and didn't get the call to help track!

Quiet opening weekend in VA. We always hunt deer and Turkey opener at a friends camp. Watched a few come back into bedding way out of bow range Saturday morning. Saturday night my buddy Matt pulled the trigger on a big bodied 8, clipped a branch and the arrow disappeared into the woods never to be found. I was sitting a stand about 100yds away from him looking up into a big draw and that sombitch came through 25yds behind me running like a bat out of hell and disappeared over the ridge onto the neighbors property.

Food, beers, bourbon and general hunt camp bs was really highlighted by getting his granddads Willys out of the shed and taken down to his house so he can get it back up and going.

Went game ranch hunting again, but this time I brought the wife along for the weekend. She's a great sport and had a blast. Not a single complaint except that we picked a terrible Mexican restaurant for our last night and it was a dumpster fire of flavor. (Las Salsas's puts everything to shame. If you know, you know.) It was my wife's second taste of hunting, the first being when we were dating and I was deer hunting at my grandpa's farm... she helped me track and haul a dead doe up the side of the mountain in her pajamas. She was a bit on the fence about how she'd feel watching something die, but this bothered her less than running over an owl last weekend. Now she wants to go back and kill a hog herself.

Hit it at seventy yards, running through brush. Dropped it with a single shot from my favorite rifle, a stock Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308 with a Vortex Crossfire II Scout Scope. I'm two shots and two drops in to this rifle so far and loving it. It's satisfying to pull off a shot like this with minimal practice over the past few years.

Not real big, but should be pretty enough once cleaned up. Has a nice black mane. There were two of them traveling together, this Corsican and a Black Hawaiian Ram. The Hawaiian was bigger in the body but smaller in the horns.

Hornady SST's. My buddy loaded me some to try, and you can see the exit wound. They were a success. For hunting, I appreciate a good exit wound for putting down game, but I do hate not getting the smooshed bullet back to check out the expansion.

Found me a beauty in the wilderness. Yeehaw.

Came across a boar hiding in some mud while we were out stalking.

on a permit hunt, showed up Wednesday before dark and did some scouting and ran into 6 does even had two come from over 100 yards out to 25 to check us out. Haven’t seen a deer until mid afternoon and it was a very small yearling at 125 yards. they been all around our camp while we were gone hunting. Packed up and heading East as soon as it gets dark to try another place tomorrow and Sunday

I love the .308, don't kick much, don't ring my ears and it puts the smackdown on game.If your gonna eat that goat try cutting it in chunks for shish kabobs on a grill after marinating them 24 hrs. in this....

I had to read that name twice. First time, my brain read it as Rob Salmonella
