NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

Took my four year old for the first time this morning. In the stand by 6:45 and out by 7:55 😂. The fog hadn't even lifted by the time he was done lol. I put this box stand right across the road from the house for this very reason. I want to make sure hunting is fun and not boring for him. I spent almost as long packing his bag and getting him ready as we did hunting this morning.

Had a visitor beside the driveway this morning. I have heard them, but haven't seen one up close lately. I have a small covey around my field across the road but never had one this close. Glad to see they like my brushy field edges.

They're pretty rare everywhere these days. Lots of things have been blamed for their decline. Not many fox or coon hunters anymore so more predators on the ground. Back in the day everyone had a chicken pen and shot hawks attacking their chickens. That's a bit frowned upon these days. And then habitat loss which is the big one.

I heard that pesticides killed off the Quail. They get their water from the dew on the grass/etc. in the morning. The adults could take it but it killed the chicks.

It happens, thankfully for me it was all before lumenocks existed. I can point someone in the right direction to a couple free arrows in PA if they want to dig them out of a tree limb.

I cut the damn tree down then my limb saw broke so I drug the arm sized tree 3/4 of a mile back to the truck I wasn’t about to leave a 30 dollar broadhead stuck in there

Broad River Crew hangout weekend. Heading up to the mountains of Georgia at the end of next week. Flyfishing. 😎
 
Weekend in Georgia just got better. 7 point buck that Grandpa piled up this morning a few hollars over.
