More deer will be harvested by sacrificing a few hunts to teach the next generation than by leaving them at home cause they won't sit still.

I got pretty worked up with the munchkin because he wouldn't sit still or be quiet. Then I remembered that I started hunting at 3, and I still move and make racket sometimes. The memories will last longer than the meat.

Well he gave up and went back inside at about 730.... pretty sure I just missed an 8 pt at 745


Just checked for blood nothing no hair or blood with the 45-70 if I hit him there would have been something. I forgot to borrow my other buddies shooting sticks 120 yards freehand with a 1x4 scope. Got to excited I guess. Had him at 35 yards but walking fast and tried to stop him and he spooked

Four small does came through at 345 with a spike annoying the shit out of them. Quiet ever since and haven’t heard a shot from anyone around me.

Broke the ice today. 30 yds with the crossbow. Hit her low thru the stomach, unfortunately. She was quartered away from me. Ran maybe 50 yds.

Finally! I was getting a bit worried this season. Old boy walked out at around 10am. He’s an 8 point, 16” spread, and weighed 195. Not a big spread, but he’s heavy.

1/2 rack buck come looking for love this morning. I wasn't gonna miss twice with the 45/70. It's buck only in the mountains and I need meat.

Went to one of my layup spots this evening to take one for jerky and another for burger. Fog rolled in right as they came out and I couldn’t get a confident shot off. Peaceful sit though with a creek branch right behind me.

Your crazy I like bow hunting more than anything else but I'd rather be swinging a rifle the rest of the year. But after 10th I'm back to bow.
Next year I'm not letting a pile of does walk in the early season like I did this year

I got my big buck already with a rifle. I’m determined to get something with the bow.

hunting all day tomorrow, probably my last sit opportunity of the year. if its brown....

I got dinner!! Tough old doe. Shot her in the head and she dropped but was laying there suffering, so I put another round in her head and she got up and ran off. Wtf! But she didn't make it far. Hunting with a 300 blackout with 220 grain subsonic ammo. Was only maybe a 30 yard shot.

Lawd, I got deer meat. I’ve even given a bunch away.

Taking my daughter out tomorrow morning for her first time.

She's six and super excited.

We walked down the hunting/camping aisle at Walmart and she picked up a plastic flask and said we needed it. I asked what for, and she said 'to put the blood in to drink'.

I told her that's not one of our family traditions. (Apparently she's watched the historical documentary Red Dawn too many times.)

Then we walked past those big hokey/cheap knives, and she said I needed one of those in case we wounded a deer so I could stab it to death. (As she made big stabbing overhand motions)

So... yeah. I think she'll do okay if we get the chance to drop a hammer on one.
