NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

Well it's a little late in the game, but a friend just gave me a bowtech destroyer 340. If I can get to the shop and get it setup I'll use it this year.

First time in the 20 years I have lived here. Black bear knocked down my deer feeder in my woods behind the house and helped himself to all of the food! I hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring issue.

Settling in nicely. These axis 5mms shoot the same as my Bowhunter 6.5mms. What's all they hype over these micro diameters? Seems everybody and their brother is running them. Have enough of each to run which ever, or both. Have muzzy trocars on 6.5s, and the 5mms have some kind of 3 blade cut on contact mechanicals.

Been doing work with a microdiameter for years. Speed and impact velocity are key. Not sure about the arrows though.

The latest, greatest new gadget.
I got into bowhunting a couple of years before the graphites hit.
Everyone was amazed I was still building and running my own aluminum.

I haven't seen an aluminum arrow since I got out of archery, maybe 2011 or so. But yea, that's been my observation. If im lucky enough, I'll try both :D

Yeah, comparatively speaking, aluminum is a broomstick compared to graphite.
IMHO, the best thing about graphite is it's easy to get the speed.
BUT, if you are willing to do the work, you can test and fine tune and get close with a aluminum shaft.
Just as accurate. Maybe more considering you're building arrows tuned to you and your bow.
Plus the added benefit of shooting time.

Dug last years haul out of the ground to hopefully make room for this year. I’m lazy. I don’t bleach ‘em. I hang ‘em on the death wall as is. Dude on the far left was a hoss. He weighed right at 200 after the rut. The other 2 were around 180 if I remember correctly. Still got a pile of meat leftover.

Both bows are tuned up and broadheads are setup. Got does coming in nearly every morning (of course they won't when I hunt :shaking: ). Ready to get the season started.

You guys that bow hunt during hot season, how fast are you getting your deer gutted and cleaned? I've never hunted early season and have worried about process time to keep the meat good. Where i hunt, my stand also faces the going down sun. It's hot as hell to sit there, lol.

I don't hunt until the temps in the 70s and prefer cooler. I gut the deer where it lays, Ill bring a cooler in my truck or my boat w 2 bags of ice to stuff in the cavity and I keep the heart. You should have the sun on your back in the morning and the late afternoon. Maybe move the stand to have some afternoon shade?

I can handle the heat, but the mosquitoes drive me nuts. My bow stands are in the low lying thick areas. There’s still mosquitoes on a warm fall day sometimes. I have a thermocel, but if I can smell it, them deers can for sure.

Been behind the curve as usual going into the season. Finally got the property bush hogged off and reloaded mineral sites and feeders. We don’t open til October so there is still some time. No cameras. Going in blind this year besides some evening scouting. I’ll go in this coming weekend and check all the lock ons and their ladders, limb out anything necessary from the stands and just see what happens come October.

Asap. With that said I had one laying dead for a few hrs on a 90 degree day 2 seasons ago and it was fine. I love the early season because 1 the deer aren’t spooky from all the humans in the woods. 2 there aren’t many people in the woods cause “it’s just too damn hot”. My top 2 bucks have both been killed in the first 5 days of the season. Hope to take one of these guys opening wknd.
