Old School Hardcore - YJ SOA HP44 Build

thanks guys! i really appreciate it. i've gota add a thicker floor plate in the front on each side because my cross bar at the dash is rubbing my dash. rookie!

i love these seats. they are extremely comfortable which is much needed when running leafs!
 
that is a awsome jeep good job and i know wat u mean bout needing comfortable seats on leafs lol i hope to see this rig on the trails one day

haha. thanks man. yeah i'm pretty ocd about keeping it shiny and clean. i should invest in rustoleam stock. haha. i'm planning on taking it to the flats this weekend if the weather doesn't get shitty.

my next build might be like your old cj5. i loved that thing. IIRC sbc, front 60, 14 bolt, soa, :bounce2: i want a fun vehicle to wheel that already has some scratches so it doesn't hurt so much. you still got that thing?
 
Back to working on this jeep a little bit. I have been happy with the whole setup for the most part. I plan to put some stock YJ springs back in my jeep so I can lower it down a little bit and make it ride a little softer.

I sold my YJ cage that I built a few years ago. Last photos of it before it headed to WV with it's new owner. I can't wait to post up the new cage build that will be done by Chris at MarsFab in the coming weeks. It's going to be bad ass! I'll be taking my jeep up there in a few weeks for Chris to work his magic. I/we will post up updates once Chris starts on it.

Thanks man! I'm excited! I finally have big boy axles since all my buddies tell me I need to lose my 1/2 ton ford stuff for tons. I still haven't broken anything in my 1/2 ton axles (my postal actually gets wheeled and it haven't broken yet).

My YJ axles are staying under my YJ. No plans to sell them. The tons are for my next build. I'll post up a thread on it whenever I start building it.

So some changes about the cage build. I was originally planning to have MarsFab build my cage because I believe he is the best fabricator around and I'd love to see what he could do with it. BUT I just couldn't find the extra funds to get it done by MarsFab so I'll be spending the next few weekends building my own. It is a fun project though because I haven't been doing any fab and I've missed it. Here are my photos from this weekend.

I picked up 100ft of 1.75" .120 wall DOM tube. Some design, assembly, cutting, notching, bending and re-notching, welding, etc needed.

Another. I'll be adding in a ton more tubing. This is just where I stopped for the weekend. The side pieces are bent with one piece of tubing to eliminate splices. The one side has one splice but it'll be braced at the B-pillar similar to production cages that are on the market.

Well...had another garage day on Friday since I took the day off. I got a bunch done with the cage. Still lots to add but it's taking shape and I'm happy with it thus far. I never liked the look of a double B-pillar (as my friends know) but I do like the strength of it so I tried something a little different to see how I liked it and I'm pretty happy with it. The soft-top still fits and no rubbing on the dash or door inner panels. The B-pillar goes to the floor on some custom plates I drilled out to bolt to the factory location. The double B-pillar will have a down tube that attaches to the tub fender well. Onto some photos.

FYI...Don't worry. I'll have overhead cross bars, behind the seat cross bars for harnesses, etc. Basically, I know I need more triangulation. :flipoff2:

It's an old Big Daddy offroad unit. Super simple 2"x4" rectangle tubing and 1.75"x3" tire carrier tubing. I picked it up from Tarheel 4WD several years ago. It doesn't rattle or squeak and you can actually haul something with the rear recovery point since it's built so stout unlike the Warn rear bumpers that are rated for towing (which is silly for a rear receiver hitch point in my opinion).
