Portable generators.....

Please do not run that generator inside the house, even with exhaust pointed out the window. That’s how people die from CO.

The sunroom is on the deck and attached to the house. There is an exterior door between them. The sunroom has vents below the house soffit on both sides and the soffit is not vented. I would only run it on and off to keep the fridge cool. The other option is to fab a roof over the gen. just outside the sunroom. I have some tin and plenty of lumber to do that.
The other option is to put it under the sunroom/deck and run the cord through a foundation vent, cut a hole in the floor w a hole saw behind the fridge and run the cord under the house as opposed to running it through the back door and having a cord laying on the floor. Under the sunroom it would be dry and the noise would be about none in the house.

Set that thing outside, away from the house,on the ground and let er run.

And don’t forget your ground rod too ;)

Tell me about it, relocated where I put my generator and had to drive this 10’ SOB into the ground Monday night

This. Our generator is in the camper, parked outside of the carport in free and open air. Leave it running for a few hours, and it'll still make it stink in the carport (and sometimes in the mud room) depending on how the wind is blowing.

If anyone is still looking for a gen, Rural King in Morganton still has some, various sizes. The only one I can quote a price is the 4000 watt one, it is $299. they had bigger and smaller.
Sold out yesterday, but had a truck load in there by late afternoon. If I were to guess, 2 hours ago they still had maybe a total of 100ish left for sale.

I was at harbor freight earlier and some dude had drove all the way from Va Beach to get a gen and some jugs.Thats about 13 hours round trip. The manager said out of town folks had been there all week buyin em.

Lowe’s in front of Concord Mills had a bunch of Cat generators awhile ago. I think they were 5kw or so. Didn’t buy one. Just letting y’all know.

the thing that kills me about all this is everytime a big storm hits theres a rush on generators. Is this not something you buy once and maintain, held in reserve for these situations?

Hell, we bought the generator I have now in 1996. It's an old Homelite 4400 watt rig from back when they made decent stuff. It was actually made in Charlotte...I thought that was kinda cool.

Anyway, it sat for YEARS until Matthew rolled through and I got it out and fired it up. We always turned it off by cutting the gas off and letting it run out, but it did run somewhat poorly. It revved up and died down constantly and it was no doubt from some build up in the carb...probably the needle and seat.

Anyway, last week, I filled it up with some fresh gas, cleaned the fuel filter screen, new air filter, a spark plug, and a new ignition cutoff switch. Oh, and a bottle of mechanic in a bottle. Not because I thought it was some miracle fix, but I must say, after running for about 30 minutes it runs like a new one! Ooh..I changed the oil too. All of these tune up items were the very first ones since it was new.

Home Depot/cary had a bunch of gens. to sell today this pm but they were sold out of any useful extension cords.
Bass pro shops in cary should have some thurs. The good news is we may not be in the middle of the shitstorm and might not need them here in the triangle.... but that is just a guess from the weatherman.

So I've been wanting to upgrade my generator for awhile and just haven't been motivated to do it so far. But has anyone ever ran a millermatic 250 mig welder, 220V of course, off of a generator and what wattage was needed? I haven't looked up the specs on the welder to do the math to find out yet.

I have run a 180 on a 5500W. That works fine, but the 250 probably needs a bigger gen if you want to run it at full power.

I just made me up a cordset with the generator plug on one end and a dryer plug on the other. If I need it I just take the dryer vent off and feed it though there. I stuff a towel around it to keep the outside air out. Works pretty well.
