Ahhh.... Sunshine and cedar trees.
Beautiful day in the Carolinas. T-shirt in January, cold beer and country music (well, and some Carlos Santana, Scandinavian folk metal, and of course classical masterpieces from Mozart, Saint Saens and Dvorak).
Yesterday at the junkyard was a great success. I'll also be dragging home another Dana 60 by the end of the week, plus whatever else I can't say no to. I originally went there in search of a stock 1350 yoke for a Sterling 10.5 as a last ditch effort to escape the limp mode I've been driving the Jeep in since the last time I blew up a rear driveshaft. What I ended up finding was a 1410 yoke that came with a free driveshaft that I could shorten to fit. For the price of a 1410 Spicer U-joint on Amazon, and the simplicity of carrying one spare for all purpose was a driving factor in deciding against a 1350 CV.

It made more sense to use a 1410 Superduty driveshaft on both ends. I've already ordered a 1410 strap style NP205 yoke for the front. I'll go ahead and throw in another to my order tomorrow when I call up Chase at ECGS to order 4.56 gears and spool for the Dana 60. Simple enough.
Here's the down and dirty on a 99-04 SD rear driveshaft:
.095" wall tubing.
3 5/16"-3/8" ID.
Here's a shot of my completed 1410 front and my soon to be completed rear.
My plan is to source or likely fabricate an ID sleeve as I adjoin both halves for a double duty of trueness and wall thickness increase. I need to dig around and see if I have anything close, if not then I can buy or build a coupler at work, then it's a matter of burning a 7018. Once my yokes get here I can give this baby a test spin. Knowing how quick and deadly accurate my orders are through ECGS, I'll be back in 4-dig very soon. My friend AJ that owns the junkyard I was at yesterday has riverfront property complete with trails, creekbeds and campsites that back all the way up to the Broad river that I've been invited to check out. Thank you, AJ.
And of course I'll be heading up to see
@jeepinmatt to pick up his SD driveshaft to build a spare out of.
