Rutherfordton Nc Ford 8n retrieval and Resurrection. I hope!

Yes I realize that now. However we have no spark. Voltage to coil is low. I think the ceramic resistor is done. Can it be bypassed? From what I'm seeing in videos it cuts voltage to the coil.
I feel like, years ago, we ran an cheap halogen light bulb inline, to act as the resistor. It was typically a tail lamp or marker light, mounted so we knew the ignition was on.

When I look at this site, it says use a 2.0ohm resistor: https://www.steinertractor.com/ABC366-Universal-12-volt-Voltage-Resistor-2-terminal-style-.

Thanks. My local TS had one in stock. I'm surprised at what all they have for this thing on the shelf. I ended up replacing the coil yesterday and she fired up. It still isn't running though. Not sure what is going on here. I thought it might be fuel delivery issue but using starting fluid in the intake of the carb did not help. I spent most of Sunday trying to get it running to no avail.

Very frustrated... I got spark back but... Still can't get the ole girl going. Neighbor came down and helped try yesterday. He had one and has experience with these old things. He feels the timing is right and it's a fuel issue. I do have an eBay special $32 carb. So basically it has new coil, new plugs and we have spark. While checking the timing the number one has a good feeling compression. It will try and catch but then die. Any thoughts?

I tried one of those eBay carbs myself, had the same problems so I bit the bullet and bought a good one and no problems ever since

New carb will happen just not right now. Did some testing and found the the spark is intermittent.

Back to work. Fuck points.

Shredded the belt load testing with the box blade. So to the parts store tomorrow. But she’s back!

So little update. Took some digging and a parts guy that could use a belt measure tool to find the right belt. This thing is quite a bit shorter than what the standard 8n with 12v conversion uses. Ended up with a Dayco 41517. Took the tractor to the MIL house to see if the lift would pull fence post and she did. Loaded up to come home and had a small mishap.

You've lost a lot of your life over this cheap tractor...

Yes but it's been great! I almost buried it to the axle today after I got home. Found a cluster of wysteria all about 2" - 3" and probably 4 or 5 roots. I hate this fucking stuff.

So I put the home made trailer mover to work dragging privit trees. Probably should have put more thought into it. She has started every time with the new ignition. Still need to figure out the brakes. For now though she’s going to work.

You can always get an ignition upgrade. They make lots of stuff for these old tractors.

So a little update on The Bastard. Went to Agri Supply in Florence last Saturday and picked up some forks. $299 seemed like a good deal.

Finally got to use them after all the rain stopped.

They do what I wanted so I’m happy.

I noticed my tire low. While airing it up the valve stem decided it was done. Idk what was in that tube but it was a lot! So it was time to get the rim off the parts tractor. Came off easy with my HF 1” socket set. Had to swap the hat too.

This thing continues to impress me. Had a hackberry tree taken out Thursday. Today after work I started hauling it to the burn pit. Those $299 pallet forks have been worth it.

The trunk had to be cut into 3 pieces. The front float was bad otherwise. I need some front weights and a way to hang them. Does the front bumper that was in these things capable of holding weights?

So fluid leaked out the axle. Didn't loose lift but can tell it's low. Ordered some sure seals. Will get them in as soon as I can.

On a side note I really want to put some weights on the front. If anyone has any for cheap help a brother out!

So I’ll be ripping it back apart. Those things did not go in well at all. But she doesn’t leak now. Played with the brakes. Going to have to pull both sides apart and get the cams and rods working. Still more research to do there. So I decided to put the subsoiler on after work yesterday. Proceeded to get hung on the third stump.

Put a floor Jack under it and got some 4x4’s under the tires which got it high enough to drive out. This thing is awesome except the No brakes.

So a little update and new issue. The axle seal is leaking again. So I’ll be redoing that. Today while moving the military trailer project around I noticed my governor leaking oil. Now I know why it was low.

So more fun with tractor tires.

Tried to fill the tire and fluid was shooting out. I assume the tube got damaged. The hole where the valve stem comes out is rough. Dismounted issuing HF tools.

Plan to weld a piece of steel in and drill a new hole.
