Swampy go fast

It will be done when i put the transmission back in.....:fuck-you:

I replaced the trans over the weekend. The truck cranked very easy on Propane. I still have to make a crossmember for the 205, do some grinding on my front driveshaft, and go over all everything/tighten bolts before the farm.:driver:

:fuck-you:U SUCK!!!!!!!!

hope it works out this time:beer:

I'm going to build the crossmember tonight....So I will be driving it tomorrow....I hope I don't break it

My crossmember was bolted to the adapter and then had poly bushings at the frame rails...also poly motor mounts.

That is the wrong way to mount a transmission. It continually surprises me how many people do it that way though. Look at any factory front engine, rear drive/4x4 transmission mounting. They have a single mount under the tail of the transmisison so the transmission mount doesn't induce twisting forces into the engine/tranny combo breaking it at the weakest spot-the tail shaft of the tranny.

Danny, i've thought about that before, but I assumed if the engine and tranny were mounted the same way they should have the same amount of "play" or "give". Mine are mounted this way, you have me questioning it now though.

I think that logic works fine assuming the frame/chassis does not twist, and that may be the reason some people get away with mounting it like that because either they have a VERY rigid chassis or don't drive it hard enough to twist it. The way I see it, if the frame/chassis twists, there is no give in the 'system' between the engine mounts and tranny mounts. Something has to 'give' if the frame/chassis twists, and the weak point is typcially the tailshaft of the transmission.

I've seen several tranny tailshafts busted though with stock mounting, and heavy ass 203's hanging off the back. I think that is due to too much unsupported weight combined with high 'G' loads from hard wheeling. A lot of them had a support rod that went from the side of the TC up to one of the tranny bellhousing bolts. Sometimes that gets misssing during a rigs life, and then boom.

Sorry to plug up your build thread with all this chatter man. The truck looks cool. Hoping to see it at the Farm ride. I'll be in a white Samurai.

I took some pics of it in the driveway yesterday.....Seems to be about as far as it will make it from the house.

Thanks man. I'm going to cut some more out of the floor so I access the side of the trans a little easier and replace my leaking trans cooler line in the morning. I might also drop the pan to see if the filter is clogged again. That shouldn't take long. Then I'm gonna haul it to Larry's Muffler Shop to fix reroute my exhaust away from my driveshaft. If my trans problem persists then I will also be taking it to someone to repair or rebuild the trans.

:Jeremy Clarkson: Is that winch cable holding the hood down? :Jeremy Clarkson:

Ha...Yes it is. I stole the Idea from Unbreakable. I had to cut my hood pins off to clear the radiator and I never got around to puting them back on.

The trans is working fine now. I took the truck to Larry's Muffler Shop today and redid my exhaust. He does some damn good work! My brakes are also bringing the suck. I'm gonna try bleeding them a few times tomorrow.

I hauled it to have the brakes fixed today. My buddy's garage is in a old furnature factory complex with lots of room. I was able to get it around 60ish mph. This thing is pretty fun to drive now.
When I put the shif kit in the trans I only used one of the detent balls. It shifts like a drag car.
I should have it back tomrrow
I picked up my degree shims for the front axle tonight from Ryan at 4WP.

I'm hopefully going to install the degree shims and build the track bar for it tomorrow. Then it's going to the Hell Trail for some pre Mtn. City testing.

Lost all forward movement......The trans worked fine in reverse. It has allready been pulled and my firend greg is going to put the SM465 in this weekend.

I've been making slow progress on the truck. I've been going slow as to get everything right and not cut corners. The input shaft in the 465 was pretty sloppy so i replaced it. I also degreased and wire wheeled the the trans adapter and t case. I changed the input shaft seal and the adapter seal....which was almost impossible for auto zone to find the part number for. I then painted the whole set up with about 10 coats of gloss black
My 205 had been giving me problems so I took a few trips out to Larry's Muffler Shop and he guided me through tearing it down and fixing the problems. We also removed the 27 spline input and put a 10 spline in so that it would mate to the SM465.
I picked up a new clutch kit, clutch master and slave cyl, and the stuff needed to adapt them together yester from napa.
Greg and I should be working on it tonight and hopefully Swampy will be rockin and rolling for the weekend.

Im gonna try but idk
