The Money Pit- Lockedup5's YJ on Tons-- Updated Phase Two 2016-- 6.0 swap!!!

On to my build thread. I managed to get my gauge/switch panel finished up and got the gauges in and hooked to the engine except the volt meter. I also started on a couple switches too.
I got lucky today and picked up a brand new 10 gallon propane tank. I did get the brackets strapped to it and kinda mocked up where it's going. It is going to fit perfect behind the back seat. I've got about 3/4'' on each end of it between the fender wells. I'm excited to see it going in. I was going to build kind of a shield/cage around it to make it a little safer since my kids will be riding in the back seat. What do yall think. Do I need to build one or not?

IMO no, you don't need one. The tank is much more durable than any stock fuel tank or after market fuel cell. It's already protected by the cage of the Jeep. Also, any pressure that could cause an issue would likely be vented through the systems plumbing. I have seen these tanks hold up during some major rolls and collisions.
My questions are: one tank plenty for a good day riding, are you going to get more? for multiple day wheeling?
Are you going to mount tank clamps/mounts so the smaller tanks can be used in the same fashion/location?
Are you going to use a pressure switch inline much like those used in RV's for fuel levels?

In the other jeep w/ the same engine I could run all day on an eight gallon tank. Lots of times like at ure I might would have to switch to my second tank on the way back to the out post. So I'm hoping one ten gallon tank will be fine but we will see. I just don't have room w/o some major mods to get two eight gallon tanks in there. As far as getting multiple tanks yes I plan to get at least one more 10 gallon tank. I have five eight gallon aluminum and two steel tanks I can sell to offset some cost.
I don't really plan on running small tanks unless it's a short trip like the flats or another small park.
I don't really know what you are talking about when you say pressure switch. Can you explain more?

Keep in mind your fuel usage will be different. Bigger axles, more gearing, bigger tires and wheels and much heavier Jeep, which all will have a bearing on your fuel usage.

You know on your RV where you hit a button and it tells you how much propane you have left in your tank? well that's run on pressure. thought you might run one since you are only gonna run one tank at a time

I have looked into the gauge also since I only run 1 tank currently. The only downside is, you have to put a pressure sending unit in place of the tank gauge in every tank you plan to run. For you it might only be 2, but its basically an oil pressure sending unit.

if you dont run a fuel level gauge, i would atleast recommend getting a low fuel light. It'll give you a few minutes to get a few tank. I can send you a link for it, if you dont have.

I didn't get crap done today. I've been fighting hydro steering problems. The steering is great...... when I hold my finger over the vent hole on the PSC reservoir. When I let it go it pumps all the fluid out of the pump reservoir out the PSC res. vent hole. The only thing I know is the fluid levels aren't equalizing fast enough. I have a 1/2'' return line from the orbital to the psc res and a 3/8'' line from the psc to the back of the tank on the pump. The psc res is above the pump. I'm just guessing that gravity feeding the pump tank just isn't fast enough.
What I've decided to do and correct me if you think I'm wrong is to extend the neck of the pump tank to just above the top of the psc res and cap it off and put a vent there. Then I'm going to close off the vent on the psc res. What I'm thinking is that just enough pressure will build in the psc reservoir to keep the pump tank full to keep it from running dry. Am I correct?

I also picked up a deal on a spare tire today down at Rides. He had a new 41'' Iroc for a 17'' wheel. I figured that would be close enough to a 43 to not hurt anything. So I''m in the market for a 17'' wheel 8 on 6.5 if anybody has one laying around.

This is the bumper we spoke about.

You're thinking is correct, but it's not the vent. You need a larger line going from the psc to the pump. 3/8" isn't big enough. You should be using a -8 at a min but i would say -10 or bigger. I ran a 3/4" hose on my last setup.

Also will it push out fluid in both directions, or just turning left? Using a single ended ram, your fluid level will rise and fall a good bit.

It's pushing it out all the time even just sitting there as it's circulating the fluid. I'm going to try my idea this evening and let yall know.
