The Money Pit- Lockedup5's YJ on Tons-- Updated Phase Two 2016-- 6.0 swap!!!

you guys need to do more working and less posting, burning way too much daylight on here.....

what pump are you running?

I'm running a stock pump that I did the Texas Offroad mod to.

You have 2 options for the pump.

You can put a bigger fitting in the stock resi of the pump or get another resi for it

I think I resolved my problem! I did my idea I talked about earlier. I put an extention hose on my stock resivoir and put an aluminum stopper in it w/ a 3/16'' vent hole and blocked off the vent on the PSC resivoir. It worked like a charm from the first time I tried it. I mean it worked perfect. It was super smooth even at a low idol. It was just as I figured not quite 4 full turns lock to lock.
I didn't put a cooler on it or run the return through my radiator like I'd planned. I'm hoping going w/ the larger cylinder will keep the fluid cool enough to not put a cooler on it but we'll see.

I don't particularly like the extension hose sticking up like that but I had to do what I had to do.

I need to catch up on some of my pics and progress so here they are. Plus some random pics.

Rear brakes done.

Had to get my gauges ran so I fancied up the dash a little before I did. Also started on some of my switches. I'm sure that panel will be full of switches before I'm done. I still need switches for my push button start, winch, rock lights, fans, master switch, and a few more I'm sure.

Pic to show how close everything is. The engine compartment is full and I've not even mounted my weldernator, welder power box, or my fan control box.

random pic I like w/ it finished underneath the rear.

new propane tank.

After finishing up the steering this afternoon I finally got to do something I've been wanting to do for twenty months and that is to roll it outside in the daylight. I didn't want to chance driving it out in case something went wrong. But once I had it outside I was going to air up the ORIs but I couldn't stand it I had to check everything out and drive it finally!!! :driver: :driver: :driver:

Full bump pics

Kids had to have a ride too because they have been waiting as long as I have to ride in it.

I did manage to to get the ORIs aired up. I had to pick the Jeep up w/ my skid steer to do it but didn't get any pics. I was just excited to get them done.

Here is a pick at ride height.

DSC01724.JPG

NOT!!!! I'd actually aired them up to much so I could let the nitrogen out a little at a time to get my correct ride height. This pic is about 1 inch from full extention. I was going to drive it around like this but this is when I found out I need to turn my front drive shaft around. At full extention the driveshaft was in a bind at the transfer case. If I put the slip yoke at the axle side I think I will be in good shape.

I didn't get a pic at true ride height but I did get a few while I stretched it out on a dirt pile.
I could not be any more happy w/ the way it drove and steered. The clutch and slave cylinder worked excellent. With the ceramic clutch I put in it It is all or nothing but I think it will work great. The transmission I built seemed to be very smooth w/ no issues at all. I may need to bleed my brakes again but they worked great too. Power brakes will be so nice to have.
I don't have my air system hooked up yet so I couldn't test my ARB but hopefully there won't be any issues w/ it.

All in all I am extremely happy and excited. So far I've not really had to go back and rework much of anything and hopefully won't have to. Maybe I can put it on the trail in a few weeks and see if anything needs to be changed.

Some of you were concerned about the clearance of my ORIs at the rear frame at full stretch but I think I will be fine. I didn't get it completely flexed out but I had a good couple inches between the ORIs and where I frenched the frame.

What size line ended up running from psc to pump?

Have you tried to turn the wheel back and for really fast?

I would rethink not running a cooler. At a minimum i would run a extruded fin type inline cooler. Fluid will get extremely hot in the rocks.

Everything is looking really nice.

Can you reach that panel with your shoulder belts tight? If not i would put the starter, ign, & main power switches somewhere else.

Jeep look awesome Ken!!

I know nothing about P-pump setups....

Is that a normal setup? it seems if you had two bodies of fluid they would try to equalize. More so if one was higher than the other, and if one feeds the other.

They will try to equalize. With the return going only to the extra resi, the integrated tank will rely on the other tank for fluid. If it's only 3/8" hose between them, it won't feed fast enough.

If the return is fed into the integrated resi, the extra resi is just supplemental fluid.

With it setup like Kenneth does & the psc vent plugged, it basically becomes a expansion tank inline in the return.

To answer your question Probably not. I haven't checked. Really didn't even think about that. I don't really have any place else to put it but I'd thought about putting my push start and winch controls in the front face of my security console. I need to check this.

kenneth was so excited when he called me to let me know "IT LIVES" he offered to finish my 1 ton sbc yj. thanx ken. Its great to have over excited friends. lol. dropping my load of parts off just as soon as i can get all this mess loaded. lol
but you should be able to reach a start button if you mount it where the yj had fog light swithes from the factory. under the speedo in a lil flat area. i think that would be a good place for it. i will try in a few. my heep just happens to be in the garage tonight
