The Money Pit- Lockedup5's YJ on Tons-- Updated Phase Two 2016-- 6.0 swap!!!

I can't figure out how to upload video right now so all I have is a few pics from my ride at the Flats yesterday.
All in all I couldn't be more happy w/ how the jeep performed up there. The conditions were perfect for a good day of wheeling. I crawled about every trail there w/ ease with the exception of the Hill. I got denied by it. I gave it a pretty good go at it but was a little nervous considering it was really my first true obsticale I had to really hammer on.
I conquered both sides of Superman. The right side was super easy but the left side I had to take a couple tries at it but I made it w/ the help of the skinny pedal.
I really never realized it but there is quite a few trails there I didn't know was there for the simple fact I couldn't try most of them in the old cj5. So basically the Flats double in size for me.
There were some places I had to thrash on it pretty hard so I guess I can officially say I have broken it in pretty good.

This is an awesome build! I've got a heck of a lot of catching up to do.

One question referring to your frame tie-ins on the roll cage, any serious vibes doing it the way you have? I plan on using a form of bushing set up but this way may also be another option.

Thanks. Yeah This build thread kinda exploded. Never thought I'd keep up w/ it as good as I have.

As far as vibirations I can't really feel any excess vibs. I don't have my motor welded solid so the rubber in the motor mounts is absorbing most of it.

This is a little more exciting. Was a little nervous considering it was my first real obstacle I had to beat on plus everything being so new. And if you've ever been to the Flats or seen the Hill lately that is one heck of a ledge now and straight up.
I'm just trying to get my bearings on the limits of the jeep so don't make fun of me that the Hill denied me.:flipoff2:

I thought I had video of me basically crawling the right side of Superman but my camera man messed up I guess. Any how the left side was a lot better for video.
If you can't tell I was getting a little more comfortable w/ the jeep and also a lot more excited.
I'm well pleased w/ how it did on it's first trip.

I imagine a good whack with a 2X4 couldn't take the shit eatin grin off your face. congrats

You are correct

looks good kenneth. From what little I could see in the videos, might not hurt to lower the air in the tires some until they are broke in.

Kinda looks that way but there is 4 lbs in the rear and 5 lbs in the front. I didn't have any traction problems that day so I didn't worry about it.
nothing like that v8 sound.

I love it

Awesome Kennith! Nice video's too. Was it me, or in the first vid., noticed you turning the steering wheel, Too, many times, to turn?

It does kinda look that way but it's only a little less than four turns lock to lock. I'm going to double check it tomorrow just to make sure but either way I was very comfortable w/ the steering.
I've been a little worried about not running a cooler but it didn't give any problems the other day. When I was beating on the Hill pretty hard the engine ran up to about 210 degrees and when I backed off I immediately opened the hood to feel how hot the pump was. It was pretty warm but I could touch it no problem. I don't know exactly how warm it's suppose to get but it didn't give any problems. I guess I'll be coolerless until I see a real need for it.

Oh I forgot to add that I dropped the Jeep off at MetalWerx Tuesday to get my shifter/tunnel cover built. Went and picked it up this evening and Scott did a great job. Thanks Ol'Jeeps!! Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to do about shifter boots. I was going to stop by the trim shop and get some ideas and prices but Scott and I STS a little longer than we should have so the trim shop was closed when I came by. I may take it by there tomorrow evening but I really need to be working on my winch mount and my rear seat belts.

I will try and get some pics tomorrow.

I did not know that. So-o-o-o, what other secrets are ya keepin' from me Junior?

This is the other Jeep Chip and Ben were talking about. Wish I had a better pic but This is all I can get at the moment.
It's a 1985 CJ7 I completely restored a few years back. I did a frame off on it. It is chrome yellow inside, outside, and underneath. All custom interior w/ digital gauges. It has 35x14.50 Boggers on Weld wheels. 258/176/300, D30, amc20 wide trac. I built it before I started wheeling and just for show so there is really no beef to it. I lost compression in the #5 cylinder a couple years ago and I lost interest in showing it so it just sits there.

Thinking back it's been about ten years since I done this build.
I'm geting old.

Back to the crawler. Here is a pic of what ol'Jeeps did for me this week. He built me a pretty slick tunnel/shifter cover out of aluminum. I'm goiing to leave it like it is till I get some scratches on it then I'll scotchbrite it like my dash. I'm also going to take it down to the trim shop and get me some nice custom shifter boots made soon as I get time.

I'm still getting a few things done to this thing. I worked this evening on my winch plate and hopefully finish it up tomorrow evening so I can get it to the powder coaters Friday. My rear seatbelts should be here anytime and hopefully get my radio in this weekend but thats really not a high priority.

It was nice to meet you and your family today, Awesome machine

This thing isn't 100% complete yet and already broke it! lol. I guess I can say it is "officially" broke in. There was a couple of us wheeled the Flats yesterday and it was an awesome day of wheeling even w/ the carnage I had.
We were wheeling "Easy Street" up a the top on the big rock and I was beating the crap out of it pretty hard. I had the front tires up on it and bumped it good and hard when I did it dead stopped on my skid and the wife said it rattled her teeth we hit so hard. Long story short I turtled it and had to be winched off of it. Got to the top and figured I'd look under it to see if anything was wrong. I noticed the pan was bent pretty bad then noticed some gear oil running down the front of it. I'll be damned I busted the case on a cast iron T-18 transmission. Wasn't a super bad crack but definately bad enough. It's still wheelable just leaking gear oil.
I drove on and had a bad noise which I thought was gears grinding in the tranny or Atlas and it worried me pretty bad. Come to find out the noise was my power steering pulley grinding against my spreader bar between my front hoops. Aparently the tranny/engine was pushed up 3 or 4 inches but come back down some. The new tranny cover Scott just built for me was rolled up quite a bit in front of the shifter. Maybe 3/4''.
So we took the skid pan off and propped it on a rock and ran over it and beat it w/ a BFH to get it straighted back out some. It helped drop the engine enough to get the PS pulley away from the spreader but aparently it bent my cross member too because when I drive down hill the engine leans forward enough for it to rub some still.

I also had a flat tire on the right front later in the day as did upnover. Same tire same side so aparently we hit the same thing. We aired them up and kept wheeling. Aparently i just broke the inner bead somehow and just burped the air out of it cause it is still holding air today.

Later in the day I had to be winched again since I still don't have my winch on. I turtled it again on Twist It. I almost believe all four wheels were off the ground completely both times I was winched cause I couldn't do anything.

I get my winch plate back from the powder coaters tomorrow so hopefully I will be a little more prepared next weekend.

I was thinking I would break it in easy but that went out the window pretty quick. I just hate to start fixing carnage before all my plans are complete. but oh well I can wheel it w/o a radio. I'm having way to much fun w/ it.
