The Money Pit- Lockedup5's YJ on Tons-- Updated Phase Two 2016-- 6.0 swap!!!

Just read through your whole thread and would just like to say awesome build man. I love seeing people with knowledge and the willingness to learn put it all together into something awesome. Built rigs are always better than bought rigs in my personal opinion. Great job and keep up the good work

Thanks man I really appreciate the kind words. It's just took a while longer to do this than I wanted but I'm trying to raise a family and and keep all the other things in my life in line while I do it. As far as built vs. bought I do enjoy building alot but I also enjoy wheeling. Just today I wheeled w/ my buddy Rodcycle. He didn't build his buggy but sure enjoyed the hell out of it today reguardless.
If u guys had let someone known another jeep wouldve tagged along for the voyage

Thought I told you about going wheeling this weekend when we talked the other night.
Kenneth, I am having visions of a pattern here.... it appears you will be finishing your new rig on about the same time frame as I did. That said, you can get a pretty decent price out of it right after the first of the year, and boat prices are down to almost a bargain. I imagine you will buy a bigger one than I did though.

All BS aside my friend... that's pretty work!

I don't think this one will be sold Don. My family and I are hoping to make many years of memories w/ this creation.

As said rustoleum hammered black should touch that up. If you get a can with a brush vs the spray can.

I hope it does cause I don't plan on it staying to pretty very long. :driver:

I installed my newest addition to the heep this afternoon.(windshield banner). Got to go to the CTB Funcaravan this weekend and had a blast. I sure do miss wheeling.

:burnout::beer:

Many more days like this and this thing might get done. I've been working on the Jeep for 17 hours straight. I did take 30 minutes for lunch and supper. That makes almost forty hours I've worked on it this week on top of forty hours at my job. I'm wore out and my wife is about to strangle me.

I will try to get a few pics of whats been done tomorrow.

Things I got done this week:

I had cut my frame out so I would have room for my rear struts when flexed so I put a piece of 6'' .250 thick c-channel in there to stiffen up the frame. It turned out pretty good but I will be running it close when the rear axle is at full flex but I think I will be alright. I also cleaned up the angle iron braces at the rear of the frame and filled in where the old spring mounts were.
I also cut the back part of the frame off to install a piece of 2x6 rectangle tubing for my bumper. I need a piece about three ft. long if anyone has a piece.

Got my cage pretty much finished up and ready to pull so I can get it to the powder coaters. I do need to fill some holes and clean it up some.
I added a set of V bars in the windshield.

and added some rear angle braces for the rear bar.

Angle braces were installed on the sides of the cage. I needed to do this so I could run some tube down to the tops of the strut mounts that run through the fender wells.
It sucks but I'm going to have to cut out more of my fender well in order to get the cage out now but oh well it has to come out.

Also added some gussets

This is the way it sits today. I did pretty much get all my brackets welded up on my axles which was a pretty good job in itself. It sucks to build it all up and then have to tear it back down but hopefully in the next week or two it will have a new paint job and the interior bed lined. Then I can start putting it all back together.

I'm shooting to have this thing done by the first week in December for our Christmas parade. I know of a few crawlers going to be in it as of now but I'd like to get a good crowd of us to come and ride in it. From what I hear the spectators go crazy seeing crawlers in there. Let me know if your interested in bringing yours out to ride in it with us.

I'm ready for some bumpers now. What have you got? I was just going to do simple 2x6 and 2x4 .250 wall bumpers but if you have something better/nicer let me know.

I'm pretty sure the parade is Dec. 7th. Come on down.
Can't remember which part that was. You will have to refresh my memory.

:kaioken: Yet another late night! Got alot done today. All the suspension is completely welded up and painted the whole underside of the jeep. Also got some odds and ends painted. Now I need to repaint the axles and I will be ready for assembly. :bounce: That's what I keep telling myself anyhow.

Called about getting bedliner professionally done and wasn't happy with the quote at all. :kaioken: :kaioken: Does anyone on here still do any kind of bed liner? I'd sure give them some business if they did.

I also fixed my slave cylinder problem where it was riding to close to my top link. I called Novak and ordered their slave cylinder, heavy duty bracket, and their hydraulic hose. I figured that was the easiest way to remedy my problem but definately not the cheapest.

Guess I get to go pick up gas and wire for the welder. I've put a whole big roll of wire and a big tank of gas in this jeep.

Well I've been layed off this week from work so I've put in a few 12-15 hour days this week. Four of them to be exact. So needless to say somethings have gotten done.

-I got my slave cylinder and hydro line in from novak and got it installed. It seems to be working well. I don't really know till I can actually drive it though.

- I pulled the cage out of the jeep and finished welding it up and did some clean up on it too.
I decided not to have it powder coated for a number of reasons. I was afraid the color wouldn't match what I've already sprayed for one. Two I wanted to be able to touch it up when I want to. So I decided to just rattle can it. I also clear coated it. It actually turned out pretty good.

I got the whole front axle buttoned up. Everything is tight, finished up my brakes and got my braided lines on. I hopefully have put the front tires on for the last time. I also got all new lug nuts to finish off the wheels.

Thanks to BlackBear I got me a reservoir for my hydro steering. He shipped it nice and quick so I cleaned it up good and built a nice little mount for it to perch on. Before I hook it up I plan to take it back off and stick it on the buffer and polish it up good. Hopefully PSC will be kind enough to send me a nice new sticker to put back on it.

Next I did something to save alot of money. In a previous post I talked about getting a bedliner sprayed in but I just couldn't stand $800 to have it done so I bought a DIY kit. SEM is the name brand I used and it only costed me $120 and a lot of elbow grease. My buddy Rodcycle flew in with me and we sanded, cleaned, and taped everything up good in about two hours. And it only took about 10 minutes to spray it. I was very pleased with the way it turned out. It was super easy and layed in nice and even. I just hope it holds up good and doesn't start to peel.

Everything with in a 5-6 foot radius of the Jeep now has atleast one if not 100 black dots on it.

Last night and today I was finally able to do something I've been looking forward to yet dreading it. PAINT!!!!! I absolutely hate to paint and do body work I guess mainly because I suck at it. I found out that I am prone to make my paint look hammer toned. :D I guess it will match my hammer tone body armor and fenders. It's definately not the best paint job but the way I have it figured alot of it will be beat off on various rocks and trees along the east coast in the next year or so. I may also put some paint on some rocks in Moab come next May. :driver:

I did the best I could w/ the paint given I painted the tub in the garage and the hood, grill, windshield frame, and doors I did out in my gravel drive way. So really I didn't have high hopes of it turning out to well from the beginning.

I used the premixed primer, paint, and clear from Auto Zone. Duplicolor was the name of it. Jet Black is the color.
