The Senior Project

from looking online drilling the leafs is a bad idea. alot of people have said they have broken. and i was thinkin of the waggy springs in the rear but its a 2.5 lift over stock yj springs too and i want to keep it as low as possible. any idea on how to get two inchs and not have anymore lift

Upgrading from stock to YJ springs on a Samurai is a common swap since the YJ springs are longer and provide a smoother ride. The common way this is done is with spring hanger relocation plates. Basically a plate that bolts to the existing spring hanger that the leaf eye mounts too.

Here are a couple of pictures I found on google. You would basically be doing the opposite of these, and moving the new eye location rearward.

I have brackets similar to these on my Samurai, and have been beating on it for years with no problems.

well online said they had the bearings in stock, but they only had one so had to order the other and the wheel bearings . so came home and got the parts soaking to clean them up .

looks good.

i'm going to have to start a build thread on mine when i get it started.
i did actually get the 2.5 motor mounts off and the big front bumper off and one fender. got a small problem with a bolt on the 2nd.

i will try to find out what springs are on my white jeep. the p.o. thought the builder used a yota pack with a boomerang shackle

What piñon angle do I need to set my rear axle at ? I'm gonna try to get out in the garage today and burn in those spring perchs

Look at your driveshaft angle and see if it looks pretty straight to the transfer case at ride height. Then consider how much the suspension will travel, up and down, and adjust it from there. Just make sure it doesnt bind in full compression or full droop.

Help?

With a CV shaft, I always align the ds with the axle yoke at right height. With U-joint shaft, I split the difference of the angle between both joints.

Ok thanks guys, prob wait til i get my slip yoke in and im gonna move the axle back some to the front hole on my spring perch also. just waiting on some parts to come in at MetalWerx from chase at ECGS then i can really get this thing together.
