I'm finally back home.
I was down in Fort Walton Beach for work since the 7th and just got home today. Doing some V22 stuff on Hurlburt Field. I was staying in a Holiday Inn. The hotel itself was fine, but the location wasn't stupendous. It was a pain to get in/out of the parking lot as it dumped out on a busy road with a median. You can only go one way and lots of going past the hotel to pull a u-turn. Pretty ghetto gas station across the road. Whatever, it was fine.
Rewind to last Friday night...the 11th. I had gone out to lunch with a buddy who is in Pensacola for flight school. I get back that evening and was sitting in my room, like usual. I see a super bright flash and have just enough time to think...oh shit! Cue the loudest fire alarm I've ever heard. I had been debating walking across the road for beer and since I had to go outside now anway, that's what I did.
Thirty minutes later they let us all back inside, but the strobes kept going off for another solid hour. Mind you, I'm not epileptic, but it'll still mess with you. I grab another beer, the rest of my reuben from lunch, and go outside. I eat my leftovers, go throw away the container, and as I'm walking back to my truck I hear, "excuse me, sir!". There's a fully naked woman standing there, over explaining how she was locked out of her room, asking me for a towel, etc...
The note card on the bathroom counter in my room said they charge 20 bucks a piece if you take a towel and I'm thinking nahhhhh. I walked right up in the lobby and motioned behind me while I kept walking to the elevator. Later that night, the woman at the front desk asked me if she was alright. Ummm...lady...I have no idea who she was. That's why I kept walking.
The next night: I went out for an awesome burger and a couple of beers. Stopped on the way back and filled my truck up. There was a deputy on the other side of me and we were talking. Somehow that came up in conversation and he told me they had picked her up! Turns out, she was off her meds and had wandered out of her house...several miles away!
I told him I definitely felt better knowing she wasn't a crackhead that had messed her life up, but it was still really weird. He said "Welcome to Florida!"
Why does weird shit always happen to me?!
