The Work Travel Thread

So I’m sitting here in this nice food court in Incheon airport with some damn good Chinese, Korean, Thai, even a brick oven pizza place and there’s a damn BK and TacoBell and at the entrance it says Multi Cultural Gourmet Kitchen. Way to represent US!

My breakfast was damn good

That's a good sized airport, but my favorite part was leaving to come home!

Drink some Pesi Zero Lime for me 😍

Since the last post, I made it to Singapore, then into Malaysia, back to Singapore and now in Chuncheon Korea at our new park.

In Singapore airport is an indoor waterfall. I didn’t get to see it running as I had an early flight, but a colleague that works for LEGO flew out later and sent me a photo. So I have a tap on and tap off photos.

Also a photo of the same guy and I with our shadows almost directly under us. Only happens at the equator.

Went back to Greenville sc and stayed at the new bohemian hotel. This place was over the top

And I officially had the best filet of my life at hotel restaurant.

I'm in Florida for work and have gotten the full "Florida experience". I'll update later. It's a good one.

I'm finally back home.

I was down in Fort Walton Beach for work since the 7th and just got home today. Doing some V22 stuff on Hurlburt Field. I was staying in a Holiday Inn. The hotel itself was fine, but the location wasn't stupendous. It was a pain to get in/out of the parking lot as it dumped out on a busy road with a median. You can only go one way and lots of going past the hotel to pull a u-turn. Pretty ghetto gas station across the road. Whatever, it was fine.

Rewind to last Friday night...the 11th. I had gone out to lunch with a buddy who is in Pensacola for flight school. I get back that evening and was sitting in my room, like usual. I see a super bright flash and have just enough time to think...oh shit! Cue the loudest fire alarm I've ever heard. I had been debating walking across the road for beer and since I had to go outside now anway, that's what I did.

Thirty minutes later they let us all back inside, but the strobes kept going off for another solid hour. Mind you, I'm not epileptic, but it'll still mess with you. I grab another beer, the rest of my reuben from lunch, and go outside. I eat my leftovers, go throw away the container, and as I'm walking back to my truck I hear, "excuse me, sir!". There's a fully naked woman standing there, over explaining how she was locked out of her room, asking me for a towel, etc...

The note card on the bathroom counter in my room said they charge 20 bucks a piece if you take a towel and I'm thinking nahhhhh. I walked right up in the lobby and motioned behind me while I kept walking to the elevator. Later that night, the woman at the front desk asked me if she was alright. Ummm...lady...I have no idea who she was. That's why I kept walking.

The next night: I went out for an awesome burger and a couple of beers. Stopped on the way back and filled my truck up. There was a deputy on the other side of me and we were talking. Somehow that came up in conversation and he told me they had picked her up! Turns out, she was off her meds and had wandered out of her house...several miles away!

I told him I definitely felt better knowing she wasn't a crackhead that had messed her life up, but it was still really weird. He said "Welcome to Florida!"

Why does weird shit always happen to me?!

:nopics:

I gave yall a picture of the firetruck. You think I was about to take a selfie with some random, naked, woman in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn?!

Damn...I probably should have. I feel like that would have been normal behavior for Florida.

Yes. I'm disappointed you didn't. 😔

Hell I thought you might ask her in for a drink.

Then you'd have a real story on your hands

Des Moines, Iowa

Work trip started today and so did Winter :(

Iowa in winter is the suck. I had to go there for training when I worked for Pella. Flew into negative 20 degree weather and they had just had 3 feet of snow. Fortunately, they had a local person pick us up from the airport because there were no rental cars. Snow packed back roads got us from Des Moines (which I believe is French for "The Worst Ass Pounding we can stuff into a Planet") to Pella, Iowa. After having grown up in Michigan, I was familiar with cold and snow, but the lack of trees, hills or literally any scenery made the trip a sort of post-apocalyptic nuclear winter landscape with only the occasional sign to let us know we were still actually on a road and not blasting across frozen tundra or a glacier. Didn't see a cow the whole trip, but literally smelled them every time we stepped foot outside.

On a bright note, I had to go back for followup training later in the year and was there for tulip festival. Tulips are a big deal there and it's even illegal to pick or damage one. My boss got a picture with him "teeing off" on one since he brought his clubs. No actual flowers were harmed in the filming of this picture.

All the towns have some sort of colorful festival inthe spring, trying to relieve the winter depression of zero color and scenery.

and this kids, is why I left central Illinois, October - early April it’s either frozen, raining then frozen mud or snow and frozen mud, and rarely ever a smooth road in the warm weather. And working on anything road going requires a torch after the first 2 years of ownership. Don’t miss it a bit.

So, here we’ve got LEGO House and LEGO HQ in Billund, DN. Also the original house where it all started. It’s fucking cold here.
