We Bought a RV Clark!! Oh no! Rebuild thread

Buy the foam in the thickest profile of the flat portion. Buy thinner 1/4 blue board and layer like laminate with progressively smaller pieces to recreate the dome?

Let's talk about condensation...

I notice a bunch of it when we had the snow. I had tarps on the roof at the time. So it was water tight, but soo much condensation.
Is this because there were no vents open at all?
Was it the snow?
Do rvs often have condensation like that?
How do you control it?
When it's all finished store it and keep a dehumidifier in it. Also a big carport.

Thanks. You should come lend a hand..errr. I mean hang out and shoot the shit.
Shit shot!

Somewhere in the mix, I decided to take down the upper cabinates. The walls are not rotted, but the ceiling is in rough shape, and removing the cabinets is the best way to go. Aaargh!

The factory hid the wires inside the cabinets nicely. Although...I'm not quite sure the factory used these wire connectors, or if this is work from either previous owners

With the cabinets out of the way, I can get to all of the ceiling edges. This will make it simpler to install the new ceilings.

Good to see you pal, thanks for stopping by!

Come back when you can stay longer!

And bring some glue!
I was afraid i would have to work!

Most will never realize how much work you have done already. I'm impressed!

Next...and before you ask...YES, I jump around on different parts of this job all the time. FOCUS...easier said than done, especially when I have good helpers on the clock. So for now, while they're working on back bedroom, I'll get back to refoaming the front.

The square pieces are easy. Measure cut glue.

But that window has been deleted. I want to make this foam in 1 peice... it has round corners...ahhhhhh. length.. width...and round corner things! I'm glad I saved these from another deleted window.

Here it is. New foam Lt. Dan.. you got new foam!

20190109_002137.jpg

and.. as @WARRIORWELDING mentioned just a couple posts ago.. You can see, the ceilings...I have started replacing foam in between rafters. Using the technique of 2" in the middle at highest peaks, then 1 1/2 then 1" on the edges Its all I could come up with. That'll do!

Had to leave a couple gaps in the foam to run my wires. Hindsight, I could have done this a bit nicer, but I'm getting tired. It'll do.

Now that Ella's bedroom foam is finished, it's time to add new paneling to her walls. It's a tight spot, and the roof line tapers down.
I figure I'll need a pattern of some sort.

I cut off a section of commercial carpet and started whittling it down into the proper size.

20190109_194303.jpg
Then..I simply lined the pattern up with my paneling and let Ella do some work. With a sharpie in hand, and strict instructions to trace carefully, she was happy to help.

Looks like it'll fit..now it's time to trace out the window hole and cut it out.
20190109_195919.jpg

Yeah! That's it!
20190109_201305.jpg

For the other side, I simply used the first side, flipped it over and traced it onto the second pc. Both side walls are up. That's 2 less things!

Well you said it, the RV has a name Lieutenant Dan it is gonna be.
Looks good. Are you dropping the bins and cabnits to get to all of it?

Looks like the entire ceiling needs to go! And I'll bet Brooke will be happy if I remove the mattress and bedding before I start.

I guess I failed to take better before pics..but the bedroom walls around the windows look like the front walls did. I'm thinking they'll need the same rebuild treatment as the front walls. Well _$#!÷!

Ive stored the cabinates in the building. I have not decided if I will reuse or build new..probably a mixture of both. Theres really not much to them, but then again, they dont need to be built to strongly.

You've put your touch on everything else. Make it your on. Call it a resto-mod from here out.

If it's just heat strips, don't bother. I have one with heat strips, it doesn't put out shit for heat.
.

Not true, they make units that are a heat pump. Just like your house might have and they work pretty well.

As of right now, today...I have zero interest in building, fixing, or replacing anything that doesn't need it. But I get what you're saying. I could build some cool stuff and might do just that. I just cant wrap my brain around any new problems to solve.:)

It only took a couple of mins to see sunshine. Well...if the tarp wasnt there, you could see sunshine :D

Didnt take much of an effort to RIP the entire bedroom ceiling out. Unfortunately , I was not able to salvage any foam, as it was waterlogged.

It takes mere seconds to create a big mess!
20190109_123316.jpg

And this trailer fills up fast. So far 3 trips to the dump with rv debris alone.

Heat strips are little wire elements that heat up when you apply electricity to them. They're resistance heaters. RV heat strips are limited to 1800 watts, which is something like 5500 BTU. RV propane furnaces typically put out something like 15,000 (truck camper) to 30,000 BTU (full size RV).

RV heat pumps are the same as what you might have in your house. They don't work very well below 45F, and need electric heat strips or a furnace to thaw the coil and provide supplemental heat. They suffer from the same wattage limitation that stand-alone heat strips have, so they're usually backed up with a propane furnace.
