What have you done for your health today?

10 mile MTB ride Thursday with a buddy, lead a group ride 10 miles on Friday and 18 miles at Dupont Sunday.
One of my wife's roadie friends joined us yesterday. He is used to 60-80 mile road rides. He said after 18 miles on trail, he's beat to death.
Leading another ride in Pisgah this evening (after buttoning up the 60 front in the YJ)

Did 10 miles up at Mountain Creek Park on Saturday. New park, lots of flow, a few hills nothing crazy. Went and did 8 miles at the Whitewater Center on Sunday. I rode South Main and hit Carpet, Tower 93(jump line), Toilet Bowl, Goat Hill, and the Slalom Course. Noticed some grinding coming from my rear disc so I have a new set of pads ordered. Also patiently waiting on my dropper post to come in. Should make the hardtail a lot more fun. I need more friends on Strava and need to get up with people to ride. Whitewater Center is my go-to as its 10 mins from the house.

I'm down under 200lbs now. So thats 37+ lbs of fat gone since end of April. Still haven't had any alcohol since then. Currently at 197, goal is to get to 180-185(that's highschool weight:eek:)

I bought a Ibis Ripley AF full suspension bike and it was delivered about a week ago. Ibis was running 25% off and I figured if I was going to oh good money on a bike I’d go ahead on a full suspension.

That being said I haven’t ridden in forever. I decided to take it around the neighborhood and my quads were smoked. I’m trying to ride it every other day to get in shape haha.

Anybody around Raleigh that wants to ride with a slow out of shape guy let me know.

I try to ride NC State Trails 2-3x a week, and Crabtree once (normally early morning rides). Shoot me a message and we can try to ride sometime soon.

You know i'm slow!

Snuck a ride in last night right before the rain came. Did north main to south main and then finished academy. Didnt stop the entire time, first time riding nonstop. Ride felt great. New brake pads came in today and my new dropper should be here today as well.

Good news is, I haven’t been yo-yo’ing for the last 6 months or so…bad news, I’m over 300lbs. Yesterday began my quest for 100lbs gone. Realized every time I do this, I’m missing the structure, whether diet or exercise. Dietician friend Made me a pretty sustainable dietary plan. Pretty stoked about the workout plan I put together, brings me back to UT days, 6am kick off an hour of aerobic/body weight exercises, set up weights at the office to get an hour in over lunch, then knock out an hour of cardio/heavy bag after dinner.

First pieces of the ‘mobile gym’ to eliminate excuses.

I applaud your effort to lose the weight, but that is a very intensive workout plan for a man who is married with two little kids and works a full time job. I would hate to see you get discouraged. You might want to come up with a back up plan, or just be prepared for life to get in the way of several of those workouts during the course of a week.

Now that my son has started back to school (2.5 wks ago), and I am returning more to the office, I am trying to figure out how to get it all done. Over the past couple of weeks, there were a few days where I only did something like say 5 sets of pull-ups and 5 sets of curls in the morning before taking my son to school, then just walked around inside the building up and down the stairs doing laps at my work for 45 minutes during lunch because it was too hot to go outside and the gym has a Covid capacity limit that requires a pre scheduled sign up time. Just doing something, whatever I have time for is my motto.

Good luck.

Honestly, the way I looked at it…get up at 6, instead of 8…allows time for the morning workout. Lunch time work out, I’d usually go grab fast food or sit in my car…if I can do that, I can be active. Get home around 7, if I have time be sedentary, I have time I can be active. And the plan is to incorporate the family, so there’s no guilt about not spending time with them. My 3yo and 5yo were pumped about the workout this morning and jogging with daddy around the neighborhood. Really, when I broke it down, I figured if I had time to waste, I had time to be active. That’s the structure I was missing. Sure I stay up until 2am most nights…but doing what? Scrolling NC4X4 and my emails…I can do that from a bike. If I go to bed by midnight, I’m getting the same amount of sleep as before, but I’ll get a workout in before everyone else wakes up. I hear ya loud and clear, and I may fail miserably again, but the structure and control is key for me, and I never really had a plan, nor did I really have the right mindset…I was usually looking for a way out of doing it, instead of how I should be doing it. Also doesn’t hurt that I’m financially vested at this point too…and I hate wasting money. Really, this go round, I’m eliminating any excuse I’ve had before…so if I blow it, I can’t feel warm and fuzzy about blaming work or my family or not having the right diet or the right equipment…failure is on me now, and I hate failing more than I like succeeding.

Installed the new dropper post on the bike, what a difference. It feels like a brand new bike on the downhills. Rode Sunday at WWC. They were running the "Dry-Tri". Dry triathlon. 2 mile kayak paddle/SUP, 8 mile ride, 5 mile run. WWC provides the kayak/SUP and you bring your bike. I'm already signed up for next year. Woke up this morning at 196.8lbs. Had a few "cheat" meals over the weekend, I can't believe I used to eat like that on a constant basis.

Calm down guys. It's not what you think! 😬

I got this cyst cut off my arm. Not sure how it benefits my health other than making me really happy that it's finally gone. It was super aggravating when picking up boxes and holding them under my arm...or hitting it on the edge of an open truck door.

F3 Greenwood out of Greenwood, SC puts out the “Iron Pax Challenge” every September. 4 extremely hard workouts, 1 each week of Sept.
check out some of their videos on YouTube.

today we did this week’s challenge, “Care Bear Squared”.

45 minutes, AMRAP, here’s how it goes:

4 corners, 75 ft between each.
Each corner do 25 reps of exercise. Then travel to next corner.
To travel from corner to corner, you bear crawl, always facing the same way. So sometimes you are crawling sideways or backwards.
Corner 1: 25 squats
Corner 2: 25 pushups
Corner 3: 25 situps
Corner 4: 25 burpees

I made it to 450 reps. Strava says I bearcrawled over 1/2 mile! It whipped me!

Monday, We headed up to Hanging Rock to do a little hiking... Nothing major. Ended up doing about 3.5 miles (with a 4 year old, I figured that was gonna be a stretch) it started pouring down rain about halfway through, even though we were all soaked, we carried on and laughed the whole way down. I think we might have a find a new hobby! : )

Not that this is anything super major but I have only had 2 beers in 5 weeks. I realized that I was drinking to help with my anxiety and realized that it was only temporarily masking it. I decided that I wanted to at least stop drinking just because and decided that I would only drink on occasion for a special occasion. I never drank a lot but it was the frequency in which I drank that bothered me.

Forgot to mention...

My doc put me on Adderall. So far, it's been mostly fantastic. I can focus and have a normal conversation without interrupting someone before I forget what I was going to say. I fall asleep basically as soon as I close my eyes.

Inversely, when I'm in a bad mood...that's all I can focus on, but I'll make myself do something so at least I'm productive while trying to shake the feelings.

She did tell me the labs showed a Vitamin D deficiency, so I need to get some supplements.

I had her check my testosterone too. Just under the bottom end of the range for my age group. I told her I felt like it was low and I was right. She told me she didn't have any desire to put me on any treatment for that, but I feel like it would help with my overall mood.

I'm going to quit drinking too. It generally makes the sadness much, much worse and I don't need that. Plus, I have CRS bad enough as it is.
