I've waited till i finished these to post about it. It was really one of those things to just see if i could do. I think it turned out pretty awesome.

I'm swapping to a waggy front 44 so i had to address the rear 8.8. Of course, i could order custom shafts, but where's the fun in that. Also, to use adapters woud mean 2 piece adapters, no bueno.

So here We are. @hurt4x4 Plasma cut me some rings. We only have Hardinge lathes at work, so i made a fixture to mill the od and id of the rings to size for a press fit on the od of the axles. Made some plugs for the old stud holes and burned it all in after preheating with a rosebud. The were cooled in buckets of sand. Next was to head to a coworkers shop to turn the newly welded shafts. They turned out pretty good. Then back to work where i made a fixture to hang them off the Bridgeport for the new bolt pattern.

Was it a lot of work....yes. But, completely fulfilling to not dump the coin on custom shafts.
My God! All those poor nuns on that bus! How could you! :p

Broke down and bought one of the Chinese MC2150 off Amazon to replace the one I’ve been running for the past 7 or 8 years.

I took the old carb off this morning, check out the foam and damage to the gasket where the PCV valve connects to the carb. The foam is oily and thick in consistency.

Man. Super impressed with the Amazon carb. Plopped it on, tinkered with high speed idle, low speed idle, and fuel mixture and it’s been running the best it has in about a year.
Time will tell how well it holds up.
Man throw out that lawnmower air filter and get a real one. It's choking off your horsepowers.

Made an adapter and put a weber on the c10. Got it idling good enough to pull out of the garage again. Still need to work on the rest of the jetting.

Finally got around to putting the hitch on the XJ. Added some fresh paint. 24 year old bumper bolts are no fun.

What if any reliability issues did you have with the 44? What tire size you run with it?
broken 2 cromo outers, 1 Yukon super joint, 1 ring gear and the cross pin in the diff. Some of that was on 37 street tires and some on 37 Toyo stickies. If I didn’t drive like an idiot it would hold up decent probably.

Today I finally started swapping over the six bolt hubs only to find out that the spindle nuts are too big for these old(er) warn hubs.
Third times the charm hopefully.

After that I figured I may as well use the alignment tool I bought. Turns out I was 1/2” toed OUT instead of 1/16 toed IN. So, glad I finally did that.

I also removed all the wheel weights from the wheels and poured in 6oz of balance beads. I had weights all over the place and a few were broken. Hopefully these will be more consistent.

Seems like you only find out your nuts are too big when you’re balls deep

Went and picked up a free mower; but that mower came at a cost. Blew out and shredded both front tires loading it, and my dumbass left my tailgate down while moving the truck and trailer so now my almost pristine condition tailgate has some healthy scratches and a nice crease in it now. Luckily it's a 2 year only color from GM so I'm sure it'll be easy finding a replacement 🙄
Guess it's time for a trip to the body man.
