This has been popping off all day. If you don't know, some guy named Doug gave Torq Axle $15k to build him a set of axles. Well, it's been two years and guess what...yup, Doug doesn't have his axles and has yet to get a refund. He went ahead and got a set of Spidertrax but thanks to Phil Licciardi (sillyneck on pirate4x4) he brought it out front and center for all to see. The memes are solid gold and that's the only reason I posted this. Quality this good needs to be shared so instead of blowing up the Meme thread I decided to give it its own. Feel free to share the goodness.

Torq owes Doug some effin axles... - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

I may be interested in those axles :)

Ahhh so it’s like the Cracker Barrel and Brads wife thing? I kept seeing all the stuff but thought to myself “I have certainly missed something important”

All makes sense now.

So, from my broke ass corner of perspective:
A.) who the fuck pays $15k for axles?!
B.) who the fuck doesn’t come to collect after 2 fucking years?!
C.) what did he pay with that he couldn’t just reverse the charges?!
D.) is it really that big of a deal cause he is obviously loaded to be able to piss away 15k and still say “meh” I’ll just buy some Spider-Trax equivalent shit while I get poked in the ass by Torq.

Anyway that’s my .02....

And that 15k was the 1/2 up front amount.

Apparently Doug is a nice guy and has been strung along by torq with excuse after excuse.

I’m guessing it was cash so no cc to dispute charges with.

Decided to go with spidertrax/GW/branik so they can finish building the race car. So is spending another 30-40k on that setup.

I feel for the guy. He obviously has money to spend to support his racing habit, but can’t get parts delivered or his money returned. After missing an entire year of racing from this, I can only imagine how frustrating that is.

I read that’s why Phil is now pressing the issue for Doug, as Phil is no stranger to handling controversy.

Once posted several others have shared and said they similar circumstances have occurred to cash lecroy and Jonathan Shepherd in dealing with torq.

I also can only imagine bc I don’t have and wouldn’t spend $15k per axle, but I understand it when you want the lightest and strongest axles out there.

I was with you until your last point...if I loan someone a dollar or pay for a dollar worth of services, there are terms, it's my dollar. I don't care if I just spent $150k on axles, I didn't get that $150k by not caring where that dollar went.

That’s my point. You do care, and I do too but I think “some” people with means don’t and that’s why this exact situation exists. If I spend my money (yes even at my pee-on level) I expect the services rendered to be equivalent and timely. If a person just roles over said company will take it and roll with it until forced to rectify the situation by whatever means necessary. In this case social media humiliation. You or me? I’d assume we would be paging @jeepinmatt and we would be recouping our loss.

A. Someone that has the money to spend.
B. A nice guy trusting a companies word.
C. Probably cash
D. It is a huge deal, when you pay for something you expect to get the product in return. Doesnt matter what it is or how much it cost or how much money you have.

A lot of people saying this would never happen to them and I’m thinking you have never built a race car these are not off the shelf parts there custom made just like getting a motor built you have to order what you want and I think a few months build time is Normal I’m sure he was waiting on other parts as well including phill to build a chassis if you had another 100k in parts waiting on axles you would probably cut your losses and order spider track also I obviously don’t have a 100k car but I can understand where he’s coming from on a smaller scale I would have made a airplane ride myself

In regards to D. See my above post to UTfball. I was being facetious. It absolutely is a big deal.

LEB does quite a bit of custom engine and race truck/straight line track builds. I agree, there's a waiting period to be expected, but that's stated up front, I'm not just making a customer wait 2 years with no updates. We don't have a single customer that we don't tell right up front there's a 6 month backlog on engines and 3-4 months to start getting wrench time on a race car/truck. We go line by line on what it's going to take and an estimated time frame to get that done. Flip side I've also had customers cancel their order once they see a shipping notification on a $400 radiator that they were told was backordered for 2 weeks, to try to stick wait time in our ass. Regardless of what's off the shelf or custom built, shitty business practice to not be giving the guy updates and surprised the customer let it go that long. So there's either more to the story here, or I need to start finding customers like this dude.

Doug has been in contact with torq over this time. He understands excuses and delays on some of these similar items.

One thing is he has been patient and understanding to what they have said. It was only recent that he has completely ran out of patience and finally gave Phil the ok to make it go viral.

Phil wanted to make it viral in February of this year, but Doug kept him from doing so, wanting to give them more than their fair time to have opportunities to fix it before taking it to this level.

He has already been in contact with attorneys and proceeding that direction.

One of the comments was that he wanted to give them a fair chance to make it right and they failed.

Now we hear of others having same experience with torq.

Ones that you can take their money and not give them anything in return? Wow.

2 fawking years!!!! FAWK that!!!!!!!!!

A lot of people saying this would never happen to them and I’m thinking you have never built a race car

I use to ride motorcycles all over the country with Charlie Buck. Never had a clue he was "Buck racing engines" till he started telling stories of customer specs and what it took to machine his parts. That was years ago, and my first real taste of what it cost to "play" with the big boys. Never knew a race car could cost so dang much!

And he got that money up front!

I certainly wouldn't float the money only to have a customer change their mind!
