Project Steampunk Vol.2

I ran an upper level Auto Meter in my ‘69 Bronco mounted about the same place yours is located in about the same “top and doors” configuration for years it did just fine. A handful of those years was in Hawaii and it rained sideways out there regularly.

I mean auto-meter makes a good one but waterproofness has never been considered in my tach selection process.
I've got Autometer everything else. May as well. If their tach is as waterproof as their gauges, it might be alright.

I'll take your word on that.

I've got an Autometer tach that i bought off here in a package deal. I can't use it. I'll send you pics and a price tomorrow if interested

Living the Saturday junkyard life. 2021 is off to a good start.

Ahhh.... Sunshine and cedar trees.

Beautiful day in the Carolinas. T-shirt in January, cold beer and country music (well, and some Carlos Santana, Scandinavian folk metal, and of course classical masterpieces from Mozart, Saint Saens and Dvorak).
Yesterday at the junkyard was a great success. I'll also be dragging home another Dana 60 by the end of the week, plus whatever else I can't say no to. I originally went there in search of a stock 1350 yoke for a Sterling 10.5 as a last ditch effort to escape the limp mode I've been driving the Jeep in since the last time I blew up a rear driveshaft. What I ended up finding was a 1410 yoke that came with a free driveshaft that I could shorten to fit. For the price of a 1410 Spicer U-joint on Amazon, and the simplicity of carrying one spare for all purpose was a driving factor in deciding against a 1350 CV.
Amazon product ASIN B00DOI8A8E
It made more sense to use a 1410 Superduty driveshaft on both ends. I've already ordered a 1410 strap style NP205 yoke for the front. I'll go ahead and throw in another to my order tomorrow when I call up Chase at ECGS to order 4.56 gears and spool for the Dana 60. Simple enough.
Here's the down and dirty on a 99-04 SD rear driveshaft:

.095" wall tubing.

3 5/16"-3/8" ID.

Here's a shot of my completed 1410 front and my soon to be completed rear.

My plan is to source or likely fabricate an ID sleeve as I adjoin both halves for a double duty of trueness and wall thickness increase. I need to dig around and see if I have anything close, if not then I can buy or build a coupler at work, then it's a matter of burning a 7018. Once my yokes get here I can give this baby a test spin. Knowing how quick and deadly accurate my orders are through ECGS, I'll be back in 4-dig very soon. My friend AJ that owns the junkyard I was at yesterday has riverfront property complete with trails, creekbeds and campsites that back all the way up to the Broad river that I've been invited to check out. Thank you, AJ.
And of course I'll be heading up to see @jeepinmatt to pick up his SD driveshaft to build a spare out of.

I need you to give me a heads up next time you go to that yard. I want to check it out.

It's not an easy one to get in good with, but I can. Feel like helping me pull a SD60? I'll call ya Saturday. Bring your hiking shoes too. It's worth it.

Yea I think I can make that work.

It's a heavy metal thing...
I've been a fan of Children Of Bodom for 20 years. RIP Alexi Laiho. The heavy metal enigma just passed away at 41. Fuck. :(

New weench! Smittybilt 9500 XRC.

I've also got 4.56 Yukon gears and spool for the Dana 60. Right now it's down to if or when (mostly when) I decide to ride up to @upnover shop to install them. XJsavage is always down to ride. 1410 driveshaft in the rear is done. 1410 front is right here waiting.

Here's another small update. Working with some fellow boaters to develop the new River Rats logo. It's hard as fuck to get into this one. The river life is real, if ya haven't noticed.

I've bought two smittybuilt winches. Mine is still on the xj and I abuse the shit out of it. Little Glenn sold the Mj and the winch with it. We never had an issue with his either.

Hittin up the river spot for a frosty night of ice cold Coronas and the warmth of a big ole bonfire.
Roll that beautiful twang footage...

On a technical note, the Patagonia MTs do clean out OK, but you gotta wind em up a little bit....or a lotta bit.
