05 TJ LS swap

Is it true I need housing from 04-08? Then this thermostat will work?

What year water pump did you get?
Newer style don’t fit older style stats
I got 02 but from what I've read, most new and remanufactured water pumps are this newer style rather than OE made so ? First time dealing with LS motors and learning as I go

The stat and housing must match the style of water pump. Don’t go by year of the motor.
Well too late now. From my understanding I need a 04-08 thermostat housing for this water pump (which apparently this water pump is not an OE replacement design ). All this weird similarity and difference is driving me nuts. And I thought the wiring was gonna suck...

There are many different styles of LS water pumps, so you likely have one of those variants.

while it may seem frustrating at first, it’s actually pretty nice because it allows for many many different configurations to fit the users application best.

I reckon, at this point I just need this to fit lol but I'll keep ordering till I get the right year haha

Is that the original water pump for that engine?
There's a few different style thermostat housing out there. That one looks like it's for a vette or something.

My vss is in the adapter housing between trans and tcase and the computer always operates as if in high range.
That's the same thing I did on that 6.0 TJ buggy. Used a 4x2 4l80 and left both vss sensors in the trans. The 205s are so high geared that it wouldn't notice the difference even if I had relocated #2 downstream.

No it's a new one I ordered for a 02 Yukon which is what this motor setup came from. But like I mentioned, lots of info on places about replacement pumps being the updated kind like the one I got. I read a bunch a crap on these LS water pumps/thermostat stuff and kinda ticked me off to be honest lol. I get annoyed easily when something simple is made complex

That looks like a truck 5.3 water pump even without seeing the inlet. I would say wait until you get the engine and radiator in the truck first before even thinking about buying a tstat housing then you can get one that points the right direction. Hope you didn't tell this guy you could get this done cheap.

The thermostat will be the cheapest part of the whole swap. It's not super complicated. Some have a separate housing/thermostat and some are one piece. They're all pretty cheap.

Do some parts fishing on Rock Auto. They have pictures of everything. The internet (and the ability to use it) are your friend.

FWIW, when I was looking for a 160 degree thermostat for the 6.0 in my truck, I found the 8.1 6500 truck one works and is only 20 bucks.

i seen the ones that are adjustable so I was going to go that route! I told him my ballpark labor rate plus parts, but that "parts" list would be unknown since there are so many options. Obviously it'll be cheaper through me compared to others as most things are but by no means is it "cheap" if there is such a thing with an LS swap from all the research I've done. I've saved him some money here and there but I'm not going out of my way to "make" parts vs buying them either like I usually would. His budget was 15K for the LS swap and 8.8 swap when done parts and labor and I told him that was more than plenty.

It is but it can also confuse/complicate things (at least for me sometimes). Maybe it's just the way I read stuff and comprehension gets in my way I think and I confuse myself lol. The struggle is real hahaha

Dam yall weren't playing when you said its tight..whewwii!
Frame notched for compressor and I gotta modify downpipes from factory manifolds but they do fit. More pics coming later

Bruh...could we get any closer

Car accessories pull the spacing in quite a bit. It's only money!

That's not close. A Cummins swap in a square body Chevy with a mechanical fan...now that's tight. ¾" between the fan and radiator.

I can get my arm in most places of that setup. I mean there was literally ¾ across the whole surface of the radiator. You couldn't change the belt, radiator hoses, nothing. That didn't stay like that long.

As long as it's not touching, send it.

The real trick will be getting stock manifolds to clear completely. I was good but then forgot I hadn't put the motor all the way back yet haha, stupid

Why stick with factory manifolds, there are a million header/manifold options out there for dirt cheap for the 5.3
I know, more of a just to see if it does/can work. I'm doing a lot of learning here for other people I know with TJs but they're not as gunds friendly so I'm trying a few things to see where some money could be saved for certain customers. It's not a big deal if they dont but I want to try..just like keeping factory compressor which I noticed many don't

None of the shorties are really any better flowing than stock manifolds anyway. There's also all sorts of different stock manifolds you can use. F Body, Corvettes of varying years...just look around if the truck ones don't fit.

F body is the 2014+ Camaro? The ss I've heard fit supposedly well. Thanks bud.
(Yeah I've read that the flow isn't much an upgrade, more for looks running headers. I have seen some cheap options lol)
