90's throw back.....Manche build

Yes the blue tape, I am guessing that most of that tube will be visible with the skins on
Exactly right. Only visible tubes will be front and rear bumper, rockers, and that c pillar.

Matt

How about making it a double b pillar, then coming off lower than where the tape is now, and blending it in with the bend at the other end of the tape?
Pretty rough sketch, but you get the idea. These shock supports will be .125 plate, laminated and will tie in at the slugged joint at top of c-pillar and the other end on hip tube at that bend.

Here's a couple better examples.

More progress last night. Only 2 pieces of .120 tube left on the back end, (at bump stops), and of course the bumper area once the skins are in place.
B-pillar x's are done. C-Pillar lower diagonals in. Roof diagonals are done. I put some roll in them to gain an inch more head room. Then got back to the front...

Only a few gussets, and a small attachment for seat belt shoulder clips, then the roof can go back on.

Thanks buddy. Appreciate the kind words.
I wish I was further towards the west coast, where a little more money could be made. But, I'll just keep on playing in my shop, as long as I'm able.

Matt

I am just about certain that there is no one on this board who could afford to pay Matt to actually build something, of the caliber of workmanship that goes into his builds. To make it affordable, he'd have to lower the amount of fab work that goes into it. And that, is just not Matt's way.
Your best bet is to have ready money when he gets tired of it, and decides to build something else.

Thanks chip.

I'm sure there are people that could afford me. But those that could are too smart to blow that much money, on this hobby, in this state. Also too smart to give me creative freedom, lol.

I just enjoy building these ridiculous machines. Almost as much as driving them.

That's the whole point. People like me(assuming I had the dough) WOULD give you that creative freedom, because your shit just plain works! When I got it, I would know it works! I'd just have to learn how to drive it! Or, maybe I should say, learn to drive, period!

Just some miscellaneous progress tonight. Biggest hurdle was finally burning in the engine crossmember so I can have a near rolling chassis. Just the trans to mount, and waiting on two more shocks and bumps.

Few guilty pleasure pictures, (and motivation). Finally on the ground at full bump and rolling around.

More tomorrow

Matt

Still pretty hot in the shop today, no heavy fabrication. But I did find something to keep Carter out of my hair...

Tight fit on the grill support. No hood pins in this build...functional hood release and secondary latch. There will be an air dam, over radiator to grill support, to ram air to the radiator, and attach said support.

And did a little work on the trans/tcase mount

 wow

I mean..the whole build has been  but the attention to detail here is just....killer

Minor progress today, yet time consuming. New ram mounted with the Goatbuilt assembly. Nice piece...

Also finished trans mount. Everything underneath fully welded. Hope to have all supporting tubes and gussets underneath finished this week.

Matt

One is that steering column on the wall in good shape and available cheap?
Two is that clamp method how rams like that are mounted? Wouldn't they slide when pressed into a rock wall? Or does hte ram have a lip or something that stops that?
Three Is that mig or tig welds on the tube?

1, column going back in the truck.
2, the rams are machined for the clamps, no slide.
3, all the welds so far are mig.

Matt

Matt welds with a coat hanger and a crack torch.

He is the McGyver of offroad buggy building!;)

I watched Sean Rose tack his D60 joint caps with a coat hanger in the parking/pay station at trail 1 when Tellico was open so I don't find that hard to believe........
