10 PM and still no video of a running Manche. Guess I'll have to wait til morning. The suspense is killing me.
:bounce2:

Not much photo worthy progress to report. Yet, progress is being made. Lots of wiring took place yesterday, about 11 hours worth. Jason and I slung a tremendous amount of zip ties, solder, shrink wrap, built a license plate bracket, mounted some remote battery lugs, few more zip ties.

Today was purely mechanical. The entire power and drivetrain had been entirely dry fit for fabrication purposes. (I had planned to be much further along by now...) So even if the wiring had been completed last night, couldn't crank for those reasons. So, I've opened and closed/ sealed the rear axle, transfer case, and transmission today. Will get the front axle tonight and bolt the torque converter to the motor. Rear shaft in, rear springs in for good.

(Didn't realize how much this bug I've been fighting had zapped my strength until I put that transfer case back in today... kicked my ass...)

Couple pics of console ready for wiring.

So what's the Plan B switch for? Is the NOS bottle stashed somewhere I don't know about?

Wish I was able to make Dixie Run so I could see this rig in person! Can't wait to see it on the trails soon though!!

Well, I wish I was too.

Been here banging my head, running in circles, working from back to front- but barely touching the list, always finding more between the high spots of the list. This sinusitis and bronchitis is taking it's toll on me-10 days of antibiotics and steroids can only do so much; 4 hours of sleep a night-1.5 hrs of that coughing my ass off, waking the wife and mattix up....it just won't happen for this trip. I'm exhausted and to be ready I will have to half ass a bunch of stuff that just will not please me- I've worked too hard at a level of detail that I am not willing to compromise for one weekend of wheeling; versus having to go back later to redo...

I have pride in my work, and for that I choose to not junior up my skill level for a mediocre finish on this project.

I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm for my build, and I intend to keep the level of work to that expectation.

My biggest regret is that my great friends who took time from their own trip prep to come here to get me going...i feel like I wasted your time and I'm sorry. But we will be on the trail soon.

So, Dixie Run... I'll see ya next year.

Thanks,

Matt

takes pride and balls to pull the plug. It isn't like you haven't put in one hell of an effort. Most folks would take 5 years to put the detail you have created in 5 months. Get better, I bet the hours and stress have caused more of your illness than you realize.....runnin on cigs and adrenaline only carry you so far. Get well then get er' done.

Definitely ain't no shame in bowing out to build it right. Pretty sure you ain't building no trailer queen either. Get it up to your standards after you get to feeling better.

Matt, I hate it. I know I speak for all who came up to help, we know it's not for the lack of putting all you had in you, into making this happen. You will be missed, AGAIN, but there will be another day. Rest, regroup, before you go at it again.

@mcutler
Tell em all what i said...

It's all good. Do what you got to do to do it right. I know I could NEVER pull something like this off. Hell I'd love to come spend a Saturday to help you so I could gain some knowledge....

Well, you're still better at estimating completion than most, especially me. If I can get it within a season that's a miracle lol.
I agree wholeheartedly and follow the same ethic myself. Don't halfass now just to get on the trail because that is where it needs to be 100%!!

Thanks everyone.

Some progress pics...

Battery at home, remote jumper lugs run from the side posts.

Front axle all sealed, limits hung, brakes, vents, fill point done - ready to party.

Rear is done from fuel cell to bumper- also ready to party.

Interesting battery and plate placement.... & before some people think Im bashing:fuck-you:, I think its a great use of empty space. You will also probly get a chuckle if you ever have to give/get a jump and you tell them to climb under.

Not that my rig's refresh a couple years ago was anything remotely comparable to your bad ass ground up build...but I can relate to knowing when a deadline isn't gonna happen. My Ranger had tuning issues (that turned out to be a bad out of the box 12" long battery ground cable) that pushed me to my emotional and mental limits trying to fix before April Fool's ride at Harlan.
I finally told myself it wasn't gonna be properly fixed in time and walked away from it. Instead we took my wife's ZJ on 31 BFG AT and had a blast. Initially I was let down, but it's only a date. That's all. For the level of attention, detail and precision you have put into your build, you did the right thing buddy.

I do have to point out one huge design flaw though. I may even go so far as to bash something you did...
Your license place is all sorts of wrong. BCH-8764? Dude, that should say BCH PLEZ (b*tch please) :D

Kudos for knowing when to throw in the towel and not half ass the rest of the build. I actually believe doing that is more respectful of the the ones that have helped you along the way; knowing that you won't compromise the project for a self imposed and ultimately meaningless timeline. You respect their help, skills, and your own enough to continue on in the same manner as you have been, and keeping the big picture in mind. :)

Keep up the good work.

Wow...lots of welding today.

First I must say, I am truly impressed with this sub-frame! I can only imagine the time Drew spent at the drawing board for this unit. The most impressive design cue to me as a welder, is that he has engineered it so that there will be full penetration on ALL welds. Which tells me he's not just a smart guy with 3d modeling, but a builder as well! I can truly appreciate the work he put into designing this and I must say he should charge double for the sub-frame alone!

Pic heavy..
