What would cutting down the factory bumper and adding a winch plate look like...?

X2 on Rusty's. That's what we put on Cyd's jeep about 5 years ago. The aluminum bumpers on mine are broken and will likely be replaced with Rusty's f/r.@CasterTroy from Rustyâs Offroad?

It would look perfectly fine if that's what you want, and look like you didn't waste money on an aftermarket bumper. Many people have done it. It doesn't look as beefy or tough as an aftermarket one, but functions pretty much the same unless you regularly slam head on into trees and rocks and actually need 1/4" plate to compensate.@CasterTroy from Rustyâs Offroad?

I saw one done similarly to the red Jeep with black on the hood. The guy had boxed in the ends and welded up all the holes. That's correct. Ran a tall one on my tj. It went up over the sway nicely. Never had a problem with cooling.I saw one done similarly to the red Jeep with black on the hood. The guy had boxed in the ends and welded up all the holes. Looked pretty good.
I know it isnât as gorilla strong as an aftermarket one.
Most of the bumpers I am seeing require a separate winch plate. I believe I am right that a âhighâ winch plate keeps the winch farther to the rear than a flat one (because of the sway bar). Is this correct? But at the cost of being taller and perhaps hurting airflow?
I actually really appreciate this simple build's like this because its more relatable, and reminds me of when things were simpler in my jeepworld.I know simple builds like this are not as exciting as the real fab threads butâŚitâs ok.
I removed the bumpers and spare today. Cleaned everything up in preparation for the bought rear bumper and carrier and my (re)built front.

Smittybilt winch and raised plate will be here today so I put on my modded bumper in advance of their arrival.
I chopped the bumper that I picked up from @Lankford off about 2â from the frame and cut out end plates from the pieces left over.
A little welding and grinding and suddenly Iâm @MarsFab I coated it with some etching primer and then Duplicolor Bed Armor.
