Angler achievements!

That's cool! Hey how good are those grips? I have the bps grips and I hate how the darn things drop fish BC they slip just curious if those were any better?

We had a good week considering the heat. Ended up with 323lbs total.

I'm so busy at work I've got line wet twice this month ole lady and I did both catch two nice 28 and 29 inch channel cats in the river other than that nothing! I'm ready for October!!

Anybody running a Minn Kota with I-pilot or Motorguide with Pinpoint? My trolling motor died on me and I found out whoever put the motor on in 2011 didn't change the wiring from the old style with 2 12 volt legs to the new style with a single 24 volt leg so after 5 years of running a 24 volt motor on a single 12 volt battery it burnt it up. Never thought to check the wiring when I bought the boat.

Whelp, day didn't go anything like planned!

Got to the boat at 5am for push off and the marina didn't fuel it up when pulling it out of dry stack. OK. Go to Walmart and buy all 5 of their 5 gallon gas cans, stop at the gas station and fill them up. Fuel the boat up and we are mostly good to go.

Hit up a reef 20 miles out and nothing. Start heading to our waypoint 55 miles out and at about mile 40, the boat engine starts stuttering, then dies... Ugh! 40 miles out and the engine quit. Sit for a minute and it fires up then start heading back in. It keeps sputtering running on about 25%power at most and dying periodically. We manage to keep a constant 7mph speed and, like any die hard fisherman, decide to troll a full spread on our limped return trip. It paid off as we picked up an albacore. Not big but dang do they put up a fight!

After the albacore the boat seems to be running normal. We run in to NW places again and troll around for a minute then it dies again. So, we decide to bottom fish the reef. We caught a lot of decent sized sharks and some grouper in the rocks. We did see a HUGE tuna circling our bait but we couldn't ever get it to hit. After our fill we headed in about 25% power, stop in the calm water to clean fish, then make it back to the dock by 4pm on full power the last 8 mile stretch!

Was a long and tiresome day. It's fun to catch 5 fish at once on 5 different lines!

Here are a few early pics from the day. All in all, we turned a shit day because if mechanical issues into something productive. That fresh grouper was damn good on the grill this evening!

40 miles out and 7mph back in? That's a long ride! But sounds like you made the best of it.

It was split between 7mph in limp mode and 38mph when it just so happen to run normal.

At 7mph, we trolled with a full spread to maybe at least get anything. The albacore made up for it as it was a hell of a fight!

Me and my boy and a buddy went to Wilson Creek Saturday. Weather was great, fish were hitting good in the delayed harvest waters. Caught about 20 or so altogether in just a few hours. Buddy caught a nice brown. Had one take his lure and peel drag and snapped the line. We missed quite a few also including a few nice ones. Great place up there. Hardly anyone fishing that day.

Man, the most fun I had that day was landing one on the fly rod. Now my boy is learning the fly technique and wants to get his own outfit. Its addicting!

It really is. I got hooked this summer fishing small water for native Brooks and wild browns. But figured I could use delayed harvest to get better at setting the hook at the right time, since I've lost a ton of fish not doing it fast enough or to early.... still lost some yesterday cause of it. Usually when the wild fish hit a dry they destroy it though, stockers just kinda peck at it seems like. Some friends have been catching 20"+ Brooks they stocked this year.

If you haven't got your son a set up yet. Look at the eagle claw 6'6" 3/4 wt and a piscifun sword 3/4 wt real off Amazon. If you have prime you can get line for it to for under a 100. And I like the set up better than some of the orvis or bass pro/Cabela's starter kits for 1/2 the money.

Yeah I know my lack of landing some was the reaction to the strike. Just not used to trout, Lol!

Thanks for the heads up on the fly outfit, I will check them out. A lot of our shopping is through amazon prime anyway.
