I saw all of dale Jr's cars a few years ago at the auto fair. If i remember, the story behind the xj was he wanted a k5 blazer style toy.

This jeep looks like the PO must have gone to northertool and grabbed everything he needed to quadruple his carrying capacity, along with a box of zip screws and black spray paint! I have seen this thing on the lot on my way home, I kept meaning to stop and take a pic!

It is as if he said "I can make this an offroad beast without buying a single part that was actually designed to go on this thing!" Check out the random multi-colored switches on the dash
