EDC what's yours and why?

I try not to pass judgement on products even if bad experiences take HF for example, bc honestly some companies do attempt to make a better quality item after failure and they notice a problem! I found a indoor range that'll rent guns so I'm planning on making a trip there to shoot multiple pistols in feb As of now I'll be spending as much on a gun rental as I do buying one hahaha! But I've got 5 in mind I'm really set on 4 were mentioned in this thread that I hadn't considered! So even tho I have to decide which suits me personally y'all def have helped me move in the right direction and I appreciate it more than ya know bc I'm my mind set this is my family's protection first and fore most! I remember when all my buddies started buying compacts and I still had full frame 1911 I swore I'd never "need" one but it's a day and age when ppl panic when they see someone with a pistol on their hip or seeing profilectheoufh clothes and the idiots I've encountered that see your pistol when you don't want and then ask to see it and shit lol I just look at them in disbelief usually and ask if they have had weapons training of any kind, then politely say no my weapons not for show and tell an have a nice day! The best tho is when in gun stores and these younger generation feel the need to pull out their loaded pistol to show off to the clerk... smdh In defense of Taurus I've also seen multiple Springfield .45s with jamming issues and shield45 Springfield and s&w makes good shit as everyone knows I feel like most of it's due to mag spring or ammunition used tho I know the Taurus I've shot would not eject low quality rounds at all but that was in 2003 also...
Cant blame ya there. Thats how I really narrowed my search, renting them at a range in yadkinville.

I carry a G43 about 60% of the time. Taran tactical +1 base plate gives just a little more grip, but its still flat. Another great single stack gun no one has mentioned is the Walther PPS M2. Its cheaper than the G43 and shoots as good or better. I tried the shield and xds, prefer the glock. GF prefers the G42, she hated the shield.

on the real note here is my carry setup anytime i leave the house except for work. It was new at the time unfortunately 3 years later it has a few more dings and scratches. It is a Colt Defender 9mm with a Wilson Combat Pyramid rear sight and a Trijicon HD front in a Galco King Tuk

ive tried alot of holsters. in my exp, it really boils down to the size of the pistol regardless of the holster which really just dictates comforts. sub compact is where i have found comfort and least amount of printing. im not a fanatic of the "stopping power" religion. I look at my CC as an egress tool or last resort emergency tool - thus i rely most on proficiency of accuracy.

for IWB, what positions have you all found to be best? appendix has been by far the most comfortable. but with a striker fired pistol you need to become proficient on your draw lol. and the length of the barrel greatly dictates the comfort, otherwise it will jab into your thigh sweetmeat. my greatest battle with it, is due to having a flat ass my pants/belt will constantly want to fall below waist line bringing the appendix holster deeper allowing the pistol to drop adn the barrel to dig into the thigh when you sit.

3:50/4:00 has always been the easiest to draw, but the hardest to prevent printing.

6:00 has always been the easiest to have zero printing. it is the most comfortable and easiest to forget its there when standing, but sitting it puts alot of pressure on the nerves.

Glock 19 “Roland Special” in an appendix holster 99% of the time. I’ve tried to go smaller a few times but tend to always come back to a mid size 9mm. I carried a S&W M&P9C for quite a while before switching to the Glock. I switched because I had changed from the S&W to a Glock for my 3 gun pistol and wanted to be consistent.

Folding knife rotated between a couple ZT’s and occasionally an old Benchmade.

Fixed blade is a custom from a guy out in CA called Compliance Edge. His knives are literally scary sharp and hold their edge extremely well.

LCP with a spare mag in my front pocket, all day every day, no matter what I'm wearing/ where I go (within the law of course).

I tried IWB holsters, ankle holsters, belly bands, etc with my pt111, g19, other 9mms and nothing was comfortable or wearable while at work (under dashes, engine bays, lying on ground, contorted). So I gave the LCP in the pocket a try and I love it. It feels like a second cell phone and looks like one if I'm wearing tighter pants with shirt tucked in.

No it doesn't have huge capacity or stopping power but 13 JHP's should hopefully get me out of whatever emergency I am in. It's not a side arm, it isn't even a backup weapon, it is strictly for emergencies and with PRACTICE it can be drawn out of pocket and and fired with sufficient accuracy to do it's job.

Biggest requirements for me are comfortable to shoot and carry, and LOTS OF PRACTICE. If it isn't comfortable, your not gonna actually carry it and if you aren't carrying it, it isn't going to do you any good.

I carry my PT111 G2 in an Alien Gear CloakTuck 3.0 at 530. I very rarely notice its there, even when sitting. For times when I need to carry with out showing clips or without a belt I have a sticky holster for it. Wore it all day at my wedding with no issues. For my LCP, I just pocket carry in the ruger holster. I want to get a sticky holster for it.

I rock a Comp-Tac Minotaur Holster. It's an inside the waist band holster. But I don't believe they make it in this configuration anymore, it's about 8 years old and worn daily. The wear and quality is outstanding. They have some other holsters now that are very similar which I'm sure are great.

Personally I prefer a kydex shell over a leather backing against your body. Best of both worlds and easy to re-holster as well. (All leather holsters, inside the waistband, that collapse after taking the gun out suck!) And most of them you can swap out the kydex shell for various guns instead of having multiple holsters.

I would throw my support behind Alien Gear. From everything I've read, felt, witnessed on them - they are the way to go.

Wore it all day at my wedding with no issues.

Same here!

Alien gear is great stuff. Its got a neoprene layer (super dang soft!) that goes against you, then a plastic layer, then a stainless spring steel, and the layer against your gun is leather. The kydex shell ensures that it wont collapse. The shell has adjustment screws to help with retention. Many people have complained about the screws falling out, the instructions (I know I know, who reads instructions) say to locktite them in place. And yes, they are swapable.

I'm waiting on the shapeshift for the mod2 .45 to be released. Supposed to be this month :bounce:.

Same. Absolute favorite.

Mine is about 8 yrs as well and I felt it was time for a new one. Seems the MTAC was the replacement so I got that. For me that's the best way to carry

Ohhh, a Frenchie.

We almost got one instead of our Mastiff, we regret that decision at some point during every single day since then.

Oh, since we are talking about EDCs -If you want a good one for a good price keep an eye on AimSurplus.com. You can't find a better deal on used guns.

They had used LEO Glock's in .40 for $300-$350. Shot very little, just some holster wear. But Glock's finish is so awesome, that the black is just a covering. Even if it's gone the gun is still protected. All those are gone. They'll get more if you want to wait. I think they had mix-matched at one point for $275. They had Glock 27s for a time also, which is a subcompact in .40.

But they do have some used LEO Trade-in Smith and Wesson M&P's in .40 for $299. And in .45 for $340.

Used European Makarovs are pretty good too. Shoots a 9x18(NOT a 9mm!) round that is easy to find. Costs around $300.

AimSurplus has awesome shipping too. 3 days to NC.

I'm actually looking at the Walther now also. Seems to be a nice piece.

I have wasted enough money on holsters to know that I can't carry iwb.

I either carry at 9 or 8 since I'm left handed or on my ankle.

S&W Shield , 3 calibers from 9MM to 45 ACP, hard to imagine any reason to carry a foreign weapon.

I just shot an S&W M&P Shield 9mm in the range today at work...needless to say, I love that damn thing. I'm saving my lunch money for one of those!

Never had any EDC before, unless you want to consider multiple cutting instruments...boot knives, assisted open knives, etc...I ALWAYS have some sort of blade on me...but you know what they say...never bring a knife to a gunfight. I've always told myself that many people that carry usually don't have the balls to squeeze the trigger. But I'm seeing more and more reports of ballsy (or stupid) idiots out there. I think it's time to iron up.

@CasterTroy - Ew, is that pug legs in the picture? Just when I was beginning to think you were cool...
If ya on fb you have to add @CasterTroy If he permits! his #atlasvelvetpig and post crack me the hell up!! Comp-tac makes a shield 45 holster I'm not sure if it's iwb tho kydex is one I've heard a few guys carrying but I've never carried these molded hard holsters iwb always cloth or leather so gonna be an adj for sure! I carry right between my knife and wallet it's most comfortable for me in a CQC situation when I have to draw and fire from hip at close range, and it's easiest to conceal a full frame for me there bc of my height so figured these little compacts I'd not even know was there!!

The Walther compacts I seen a few days ago were nice guns for sure! I've not shot a walther in years tho!
