"Gonna do it right...maybe!!??" Fuller's new XJ build!!!

In on page 1!
Hey hey hey now, yes my Jeep is always a budget build but they've all worked great and this one will be my best yet.
Hey at least we're beyond piecing together 2 stock control arms right...:D

And no trampoline cages so we've made some drastic progress

Yes going back to long arm probably 3link or 4. I'll check it level off the spring pads..
BTW, those aren't leaf springs pads cause this had coil buckets previous so what the world are they

Oops, my bad. Just looked at a bunch of pics for Dodge D60 and saw them there, too...still haven't found an explanation, but I'm bored...maybe I'll figure it out. Pics fo proof.

Ah, now it makes sense...I just assumed you were a Face Off fan. That movie was pretty badass. "Peach...I could eat a peach for hours..."

Still haven't seen pics of one of these axles in a stock pickup, but the only thing I can make sense of is it is a flat pad for a bump stop. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Those Flat sections are were the factory rubber bumps hit the axle.

I like the idea of a 3 link build for ya. Your skills are improving and really, it's nearly impossible to build a triangulated 4 link up front on an XJ.

Rock n roll dude. Keep your ears and your mind open...

Thank you Jody and I will try my best

I'm sure the rear is the same..that will be my greatest challenge yet!! Rear 3/4 link, but I'll get to that after front is done.

You can cut your .25 wall windshield bars out and use them for your links. Seriously.
Happy for you brother.
I'll see ya at the next ride. Better hurry

Haha, I'm good on the link bars..just don't now what links I'm doing yet.
No hurry here for ride lol, gonna be a minute before Tony's ready

On the castor note I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I have almost 0 degree castor on my XJ that I drive down the interstate. Not sure if I’ve even considered castor on the trail...

This.

Pinion angle is more important between the two on a trail only rig. I run 0 caster also to keep my front driveshaft out of harm's way. Granted I'm also running full hydro but I frequently drive mine on the road at speeds up to 45 without any weird quirks.

If this were a DD or street/trail rig, we would need to find a way to give it some caster while still considering pinion angle.

Thanks guys for clarifying that.

Hey is 3/4” chromolly heims big enough for control arm links or does it need to be bigger.

3/4" is not big enough for the lowers on a full-size one ton rig. They will snap. The proven combination is 1-1/4" for lowers, and 7/8" for uppers. Some people use 3/4" for uppers.

Ooh that's gonna be pricey lol. Thanks bud

It ain't always cheap to build things right.

Think about it like this. Bigger axles= bigger tires= equal harder obstacles= more strain on everything = the need for heavier duty parts.

All that = $$$$$$$$$$

If you're on a budget then I would just leave the rear leaf springs.

Yeah I'm kinda thinking the same for now at least. Front alone is pretty pricey for me lol but I understand I need it

What are you going to do for the front? could you use the stock coil buckets? Maybe a cheap(ish) 3 link or radius arm set up?

Well I'm in the process of making my coil buckets right now I got six and a half inch Springs and I guess I'm going to be three link and just wait and save up to get 1 and 1/4 Heim

What are you to use to link material? Might be able to save some cash by using bushings on one end and heims on the other

I have access to .120 Dom and maybe some 1/4wall Dom, maybe lol. Tons of 2" hrew available but I guess Dom is probably the smarter route.
using bushings on one end and heims on the other
I see that as an option..what size bushings 3 wide or 3.5wide x 2"?
