Here come the hurricanes!

We're good! I managed to get a few hours sleep, probably from sheer exhaustion.

My place faired well and I'm lucky. Other places got the shaft. New Bern flooded real bad. Luckily, I'm up Hwy 70 a bit, actually closer to Havelock.

No rain here yet. Starting to get breezy. Im at work because someone wanted their timing belt changed. Im thankful for the money but dont really understand the logic.

Business as usual here. Everyone is at work.

It is beautiful here in Marion, NC sun shining, no wind at all, everyone (well almost most everyone anyway) showed up for work. Just waiting on the storm to meander it way to the mountains so we can see how much rain it ill drop on us and go from there. Guess it will start with some wind this evening and rain beginning late tomorrow.

In laws came up to stay with us in Greenville. Wind has been steady but not nearly what Jake is seeing in New Bern. Sister in law and BIL and nephews stayed in Morehead; they are 2nd row from the sound so I hope the storm surge doesn’t flood them out. They have been out of power since mid-afternoon yesterday.

Power in Greenville has flickered a few times but remains on at the moment.

I can tell you weren’t a comms guy. A true land line works as long as the lines aren’t torn down to the house as long as you have a regular handset and not a cordless handset. The voltage to run the phone travels over the lines from the phone companies central office or slik.

x2, assuming the CO or DSLAM has power. If you have a landline, you should keep a corded phone also.

Greensboro area is fine. Some big wind gusts and intermittent rain. Nothing big yet. My office said the power flickered a few times this morning. Haven’t gotten to the worst part of the storm yet.

We are slow and having a hurricane party here at work!

Generator backup on our important stuff.
Yep. Actually federally required for telecom utility providers.
In some ways their reqs are more stringent than health care

This is currently our activity...

You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning....

Yes its nice in Marion today. Had to take a break from working to take my little girl outside and enjoy it for a few minutes. Sunny and warm, no humidity and just enough breeze to feel amazing. My buddy in Charleston texted me to ask if he could borrow my cornhole boards for a tournament in his neighborhood, so apparently not too bad down there yet either.

Cajun navy is looking for a staging area in new bern/ havelock as well as in Wilmington.

Let me know if you have and good ideas.

Do you still keep in contact with Eric aka Badass?

Yep, his son (Damian) works with me on Cherry Point. We're both machinists. Eric just moved in to a new house in Cherry Branch (other side of Havelock, towards Harlowe) and has some water and a few downed trees, but is fine.

@Mac5005 Croatan Presbyterian Church at the end of Catfish Lake Rd has a good sized parking lot and is right off of Hwy 70 between New Bern and Havelock.

Oh, and no damages at my house...however there's a 2 ft diameter oak on the shelter of the shop at my dad's house around the corner. Luckily, all of my shit is ok so far. It did take out the front end of his S10 though.

My grandpas house is only 60 yards from tranters creek in Washington. Hoping his house doesn't flood. He lost his house from Floyd.

I’d say the airport would be a good central location and should be reasonably dry.

Do you know anyone that can give personal permission for them to use? If so send me a cell number so they can make contact.
