iMPAKS wrangler build.. no more XJ

well Scott came over and we dismounted 3 of his 40" tires and got the other 2 half dismounted.. how that sucked :) then we got engine mounts made and they are ready to be tightened down and final welded.. then we worked on transmission mount and also found out dana 300 has 23 spline and tranny has 27 spline so I need to figure that one out.. also found out that the driveshaft will probably not clear the tranny if i have it clocked flat and even clocked down some still looks to be very very close..

here is dana 300 flat

has anyone had issue like this or are most going driver side drop which looks like it would cause less issues?
here are a few pics showing tranny temp mount in place.. hope was that driveshaft would go over it to front axle but looks like if i get it to clear tranny it may be to close when frpnt axle drops down

I found JB has a 27 spline that I can change out on the 300 and it also looks like I may have found some sealed bearings to keep fluid in 300 and not in tranny so they do not mix..

need to make some calls today to see how has parts in stock and hopefully I will get lucky and this all works out

A tire shop will likely do that for free... or a small (<$20) charge. I dismounted a couple of them myself, wasted the better part of an evening on it. Then took the rest over to 4WPW and they knocked the rest of them off the wheels. Pretty sure I didn't pay a dime. Discount tire has also broken (normal size) tires down for me. Didn't charge so long as I was taking everything away with me.

I'll mount a tire myself. I'll take beadlock rings off myself. But fawk a whole lot of breaking beads on 40" rubber by hand if somebody's got a machine that'll do it for me in a matter of seconds.

main reason was due to him having stauns and not wanting them to get messed up.. not the worst thing I have done.. but the bigger the tires the harder them seem to come off :)

spent about 1.5 hrs in garage tonight..

I bolted down engine and moved axles under it and set them up with controls just rested in place to see how the look and fit..hopefully tomorrow I can start tacking in control arm mounts, ect

here is front axle at ride height

Going to cut the frame off at the old shock tower?

well got about 1 hr in garage today.

so sorry Andy but I cut off the upper control arm mounts so I can make new ones

I also notched frame so lower control arm can mount inside frame rail instead of below

well changing direction on this build..

a great deal came up on a jeep chassis from a fellow cnc4x4 member and after looking it over and thinking about it.. I think this will help me get back on the trails alot faster then if i continue on the current path..
so the plan is to clean up garage and get this chassis in and start putting all my stuff into it..

nice find on the chassis! I have an advance adapters clocking ring that is meant to clock an np231 but should be able to be used for a dana 300 IIRC. You'll just need a spud shaft or longer output on the transmission. Hit me up if you need it by chance. I'd sell it for a good price if you need it.
